  • Publication number: 20200139425
Abstract: Disclosed is a blind fastener including a core bolt, a body and a blind side clamp on the core bolt insertable through an aperture, where moving the core bolt relative to the body forms an enlarged bearing surface against a back surface. The fastener includes an extension from the body with a wrenching surface and an undercut between the body and the wrenching surface that is optionally configured to break when torque equal to the sum of an application specified minimum installed seated torque and a manufacturing failure torque tolerance for the undercut is applied. Also disclosed is a method of dressing the installed fastener including machining through the top surface of the fastener along a longitudinal axis of the core bolt of the fastener and the extension that extends from a body of the fastener until intersecting the undercut between the extension to remove the extension.

  • Patent number: 8732936
Abstract: A method of operating with a rivet is for the coupling and the tack riveting together of a first element and a second element. The method comprises positioning the rivet such that the rivet traverses two substantially coaxial openings arranged in the first and second elements to be assembled; pulling the mandrel to form a bulb on the second end; and resuming pulling of the mandrel, to cause a rupture of the sleeve at the bulb so as to permit removal, by way of the external surface of the first element, of the mandrel and of a first portion of the sleeve as well as the falling away of the portion of the bulb remaining on the external surface of the second element.

The mandrel includes a head configured to bear against the sleeve, and a shank configured to receive a traction load from a tool. There is a breaking groove which breaks off when the traction load reaches a certain value. The breaking groove including a breaking groove bottom, a first breaking-groove-side extending from the breaking groove bottom toward the shank, a second breaking-groove-side extending from the breaking groove bottom towards the head. A first breaking-groove-side and a central axis of the mandrel define a first angle, and a second breaking-groove-side and the central axis define an angle greater than the first angle. • Publication number: 20090016842
Abstract: The invention concerns a blind rivet (R) of the type consisting of a deformable bushing (300) and a cleavable mandrel (400), the thus formed assembly being urged to be positioned and pass through the orifices (110 and 120) made substantially coaxial and provided in at least two elements (100 and 200) to be assembled. Said rivet is characterized in that the bushing (300) consists of one single piece but preformed to have a second end (320) in two parts (330 and 340) which, under the action of an axial load (arrow F), are cleaved apart so that one part of the bushing (330) moved by the tensile load of the mandrel (400) is urged to be opened around the fixed part of the bushing (340), the expansion of the mobile part (330) called sleeve being produced without folding. The invention also concerns a method for inserting such a rivet. The invention is applicable to rivet fixing.

  • Publication number: 20080025811
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for structural attachment using a blind rivet (R) including a rod (100) that, equipped with a head (110) and a threaded portion (120), is arranged inside a hollow dowel (200) including a first end equipped with a head (210) and a second end (220) on which a nut (330) cooperating with the threaded portion of the rod (100) exerts a force transmitted by the rod (100) so that a second bearing surface on the second element is created by deformation, which is remarkable in that it consists of imparting a first translation movement (arrow F1) on the rod (100) so as to create, by deformation under the action of said nut, said second bearing surface, then imparting a second rotation movement (arrow F4) on said rod (100) for the purpose of screwing, so as to apply a tension in the attachment created. The invention also relates to the rivet enabling such a method to be implemented, as well as the fitting tool adapted to said rivet.
