  • Publication number: 20090068601
Abstract: A method and apparatus for preheating a furnace during a warm-up phase of furnace operation. The furnace has main burners with a tubular fuel supply surrounded by a main combustion air duct defining an annular space between the supply and the duct that extends in an axial direction of the main burner. A pilot nozzle in the annular space extends in an axial direction of the burner towards an interior of the furnace and discharges readily ignitable fluid fuel jets through orifices in the nozzle toward the interior of the furnace. Combustion air from the duct is directed past the nozzle and is mixed with the fuel discharged from the orifices to form an ignitable mixture that is ignited to form the furnace heating pilot flame downstream of the nozzle.

  • Patent number: 5544693
Abstract: A method and apparatus for sampling molten materials, such as metals and molten salt mixtures, for analysis by spectroscopy or other means involves forming small, preferably "pin-like" samples by quickly drawing an amount of the molten material from a molten pool into a tubular element, referred to as a pipette, forming an elongated mould having a ratio of length to thickness of at least 2:1, allowing the molten material to cool and solidify in the pipette and then removing the solid sample from the pipette. The pipette is made of a material of high total heat capacity heat relative to the heat capacity of the sample material, i.e. in the ratio of 10-450:1, so that heat is quickly withdrawn from the molten material, allowing it to solidify within about 2 seconds or less.

  • Patent number: 4666478
Abstract: An air scrubber apparatus which purifies foul air produced during an embalming, an autopsy or the like carried out on a work table disposed in a room. This scrubber apparatus comprises a housing positioned above the work table and defining a central compartment provided with a bottom opening, and first and second longitudinal, side compartments adjacent the central compartment and provided with end outlets to the room. An air filter is positioned over the bottom opening of the central compartment and comprises a filtering material including aluminium oxide and potassium permanganate. First and second fans move the foul air towards the interior of the central compartment through the air filter for the purpose of purifying this foul air.

  • Patent number: 4553992
Abstract: An air scrubber apparatus which purifies foul air produced during an embalming or an autopsy carried out on a work table disposed in a room. The scrubber apparatus comprises a housing positioned above the work table, this housing having a first and a second side corresponding to a first and a second side of the work table, respectively. The housing defines from its first side to its second side a first longitudinal outer compartment provided at its two ends with outlets to the room, a central compartment having no bottom wall for thereby providing this central compartment with a wide bottom opening to the room, and a second longitudinal outer compartment also provided at its two ends with outlets to the room.

  • Patent number: 4311452
Abstract: A pilot for a 1 to 2 million btu/hr. gas burning ignitor having a chamber for mixing gas and air in combustible proportions with an annular flame retaining and stabilizing device at its outlet. This device comprises two conical surfaces configured together in back-to-back relation within a cylindrical shroud, one a converging inlet to a restricted flow area and the other a diffusing outlet surface therefrom with a sharp circumferential lip inbetween. A distribution head at the inlet to the mixing chamber directs jets of gas at the lip of said cones which aspirate turbulent air through ports in the wall of the chamber. A high voltage elecrode ingites the gas/air mixture at the cone lip. A ported extension of the mixing chamber downstream of the stabilizing device contains the pilot flame and shrouds additional aspirated air for control of secondary combustion in the pilot.
