Patent number: 7396357Abstract: An ancillary tool and method for manipulating and implanting a prosthetic acetabulum including a tool provided, adjacent a distal part, with a head for interacting with an endpiece that is used for gripping the acetabulum and, in its proximal part, with a surface for application of a force along the handle. The endpiece is preferably removably connected to the distal end of the handle. The endpiece includes an elastically deformable ring having an outer face for expanding radially outwardly to initially grip the acetabulum and an opposite face for interaction with the head of the handle, such that upon a force being applied to drive the head into a cavity of the endpiece, the ring is radially expanded to expand the acetabulum in place after which the ring elastically returns to its original shape as the head is removed from the cavity.Type: GrantFiled: January 16, 2004Date of Patent: July 8, 2008Assignee: Tornier SASInventors: Alain Tornier, Jean-Pierre Berger, Patrick Reynaud, Arnaud Godeneche, Christophe Hulet, Jean-Claude Panisset, Philippe Deroche, Jean Puget, André Ferreira

Patent number: 4478644Abstract: Process and device for hydrolyzing cellulose material in an extruder with two parallel screws in which the material introduced in the moist condition and, transported by the screws is malaxated, heated to a temperature of above 200.degree. C. in the downstream part of the extruder where it is contacted with an acid solution and progressively compressed, to a pressure higher than the saturated vapor pressure of the liquid phase of the hydrolyzed material at the temperature reached in the downstream part and maintained by a control device for the evacuation of the material.Type: GrantFiled: April 15, 1983Date of Patent: October 23, 1984Assignee: Creusot-LoireInventors: Pierre Berger, Maurice Gelus

Patent number: 4466809Abstract: Method for supplying fuel material to a gasification reactor into which a mixture of finely powdered fuel material, in suspension in a liquid phase, is charged inside a pressurized combustion chamber into which the combustion-supporting gas is injected and constituting the reactor, by means of a screw conveyor producing a continuously fluid-tight plug by compression of the driven material. By intermeshing at least two overlapping screws with identical threads rotated in the same direction, a wringing of the mixture introduced through an input orifice is compressed by regulating the flow rate of the mixture supply and the rotary speed of the screws so that, for a given flow rate of material, the plug constituted in a braking zone is at a given pressure and contains a certain proportion of liquid phase. The additional amount of liquid phase is expelled into the braking zone and reascends upstream into a drive zone where it is removed through orifices formed in filtering parts of a sleeve.Type: GrantFiled: May 3, 1982Date of Patent: August 21, 1984Assignee: Creusot-LoireInventors: Rolande Kissel, Pierre Berger, Gerard Chrysostome

Patent number: 4395790Abstract: A side lasting machine having a last support, for supporting a last bottom uppermost, and two side lasting assemblies, arranged one at each side of the last support, each assembly comprising a plurality of lasting elements (fingers), a plurality of clamp pads arranged beneath the fingers, and depending from each finger and interposed between the pads and the upper, a plurality of lasting bands. In operation, the pads hold the bands against the upper under a pressure sufficient to allow slipping between the bands and the pads, while causing the bands to apply a drafting force to the upper. As the fingers move inwardly, they draw the bands upwards so that the upper is updrafted before the lasting margin is secured to the insole. The fingers, in the rest condition, are spaced above the level of the last bottom and move downwardly thereonto as they are moved inwardly, thus avoiding the need to set their heightwise position for different styles of shoe.Type: GrantFiled: October 16, 1981Date of Patent: August 2, 1983Assignee: USM CorporationInventor: Jean-Pierre Berger

Patent number: 4308655Abstract: A casing for the n intermeshing screws of a treatment machine has an internal wall comprising n adjacent cylindrical sectors each subtending an angle A, having a radius r, and covering one screw over that part of the periphery which is outside the penetration zone of the screws. The casing is made from n shells, each of which has an internal face in the form of a cylindrical sector of radius r and subtending an angle B, which is less than A, and n guide bars, each of which possesses two concave faces forming a V and which are in the form of cylindrical sectors of radius r and subtending an angle ##EQU1## and the axes of which are parallel and spaced apart by a distance e equal to the distance between the axes of the screws. Each shell is fixed to two guide bars in such a way that its axis coincides with the axes of the corresponding concave faces of the said guide bars.Type: GrantFiled: October 15, 1979Date of Patent: January 5, 1982Assignee: Creusot-LoireInventor: Pierre Berger

Patent number: 4214947Abstract: The continuous treatment of a cellulosic material in the form of chips to produce at least partial delignification of the material without true mechanical grinding is effected in apparatus comprising two parallel meshing screws which are rotated in the same direction in a sheath and have identical threads providing a plurality of zones of different pitch. The material is passed in succession through a first zone for feeding the material downstream, a first braking zone for causing a first compression of the material, a second zone for feeding the material downstream and in which the material is brought into contact with a reagent, e.g. steam or a chemical reagent, and a second braking zone for causing a second compression of the material.Type: GrantFiled: February 6, 1979Date of Patent: July 29, 1980Assignee: Creusot-LoireInventor: Pierre Berger

Patent number: 4088528Abstract: In the continuous production of paper pulp from ligno-cellulose raw material, the raw material is subjected to grinding and/or delignification by passing it in the form of small pieces between interpenetrating helicoidal surfaces driven synchronously in rotation inside a casing. The pitch of the helicoidal surfaces is arranged to provide at least one supply zone in which the material is driven downstream by rotation of the surfaces and at least one braking zone in which the material is braked.Type: GrantFiled: July 27, 1976Date of Patent: May 9, 1978Inventors: Pierre Berger, Christian DE Choudens, Gerard Lombardo, Pierre Monzie
