Publication number: 20260162920Abstract: A low-voltage switching apparatus is disclosed which comprises a switching device having one or more switch poles. Each switch pole comprises first and second pole terminals that can be coupled with corresponding line conductors of an electric line; a fixed contact assembly is connected to the first pole terminal and includes first fixed contacts and second fixed contacts electrically insulated from the first fixed contacts; and a movable contact assembly connected to the second pole terminal and including first movable contacts and second movable contacts. The switching apparatus comprises, for each switch pole, a current limiter connected with the second fixed contacts and the first pole terminal of the switch pole. Each current limiter is configured to limit a current flowing along a series circuit including at least the second fixed contacts, the current limiter and the first pole terminal, during an opening maneuver of the switching device.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 17, 2025Publication date: June 11, 2026Inventors: Pierantonio Arrighetti, Pierre Corfdir

Publication number: 20250357743Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a switching apparatus for DC electric grids. The switching apparatus comprises first and second electric terminals for electrical connection with corresponding conductors of an electric line. The switching apparatus further comprises a primary switching arrangement including primary switching devices configured to conduct or block a current along a conductive path between the first and second electric terminals. The switching apparatus additionally comprises a control stage configured to control one or more components of the switching apparatus and a power supply stage electrically connected to the control stage to feed the control stage with electric power. The switching apparatus also comprises a secondary switching arrangement including secondary switching devices controllable by the control stage. The secondary switching devices are configured to electrically connect the power supply stage with said first electric terminals or with said second electric terminals.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 15, 2025Publication date: November 20, 2025Inventors: Thorsten Strassel, Romeo Alessandro Bianchetti, Markus Andreas Abplanalp, Pierre Corfdir, Ralf-Patrick Suetterlin

Patent number: 12315689Abstract: A switch system includes a mechanical switch for electrical currents. The mechanical switch operates in a conductive state and in a non-conductive state. A first actuator is configured to change the state of the mechanical switch, wherein an actuation of the first actuator is based on a Thomson coil system. A second actuator is also configured to change the state of the mechanical switch and includes a loaded spring system locked by a latch system. Each of the first and second actuators is configured to change the state of the mechanical switch depending on a property of an electrical current passing through the mechanical switch.Type: GrantFiled: November 21, 2022Date of Patent: May 27, 2025Assignee: ABB Schweiz AGInventors: Thierry Delachaux, Ralf-Patrick Suetterlin, Pierre Corfdir, Felix Theodor Erich Rager
