  • Patent number: 7997120
Abstract: A method for pressure testing a threaded component is provided. A cap includes a female threading that is matched with a threading of a first male threaded element. The cap is made up onto the first male threaded element of a component to be tested so as to compress a sealing ring between metal surfaces of the first element and the cap, and a test pressure is established inside the component. The male element has an annular lip which is capable of deforming radially outwardly under the effect of the test pressure. Between a radially outward surface of the lip and a facing surface of the cap, at the end of makeup there exists a clearance having a value which has been selected sufficiently small so that, under the effect of the test pressure, the lip bears on said facing surface without undergoing plastic deformation.

  • Patent number: 7997627
Abstract: A threaded joint for steel pipes comprises a pin (1) and a box (2). The pin has male thread (11), a sealing surface (13), and a shoulder surface (14) located on the end face of the pin. Correspondingly, the box has female thread (21), a sealing surface (23), and a shoulder surface (24) which can mate or contact with the corresponding portions of the pin. The shoulder surface (14) of the pin (1) is provided at an end face of the pin. The sealing surface (13) of the pin (1) is located on a pipe end side near the male thread (11). A a nose portion (15) is provided on the pin (1) between the sealing surface (13) and the shoulder surface (14), the nose portion (15) being not in contact with a corresponding portion of the box (2).

  • Publication number: 20080223113
Abstract: A cap (10) comprising a female threading (11) matched with that (2) of a first element is made up onto the first male threaded element (1) of a component to be tested so as to compress a sealing ring (16) between metal surfaces (7, 15) of the first element and the cap, and a test pressure is established inside said component, the male element (1) having an annular lip (3) which is capable of deforming radially outwardly under the effect of said test pressure. Between the radially outward surface (6) of the lip (3) and the facing surface (19) of the cap, at the end of makeup there exists a clearance having a value (j) which has been selected sufficiently small so that, under the effect of the test pressure, the lip bears on said facing surface without undergoing plastic deformation. Application to tubular string accessories for hydrocarbon wells.

  • Patent number: 7334821
Abstract: A premium threaded tubular connection including, on at least one threaded element, a distal abutment surface at the free end of a threaded element, and a lip sealing surface at a given distance from the threading. The lip includes an appendix that extends the lip towards its free end beyond the lip sealing surface so that the lip has both high radial stiffness and low axial stiffness. This results in enhanced performance as regards the seal of the threaded connection under pressure and/or under tension, and other advantages of precision of real makeup torque, mechanical strength in axial compression, a shock barrier effect, and tolerance in engaging the threaded elements.

  • Patent number: 6312024
Abstract: An integral or threaded and coupled connection between two metal pipes which are provided with an internal coating to contain a corrosive fluid. The male part of the connection includes a threaded portion and a non-threaded portion with the non-threaded portion having a metal sealing surface, an annular transverse bearing surface and a nose surface. The nose surface joins the internal peripheral surface of the pipe by way of an annular radial surface termed the internal end. The female part contains corresponding elements. A sealing ring is interposed between the annular internal end surfaces to prevent the liquid phase from penetrating into the connection. Male metal sealing surfaces are provided between the treaded portion and the bearing surface. A clearance is provided between the external peripheral surface of the nose and the facing internal reinforcing peripheral surface on the female part.
