  • Patent number: 6613609
Abstract: In a method for producing a portable electronic device with an integrated circuit, a resin band is deposited around the chip of an integrated circuit and connection wires. The resin is highly viscous and can be polymerized with U.V. radiation. A low-viscosity filling resin which can be polymerized with U.V. radiation is deposited in the space defined by the resin band, and the protected resins are polymerized by exposure to U.V. radiation. The filling resin contains mechanically reinforcing fibers. The entire process can be carried out in a continuous manner.

  • Patent number: 6223774
Abstract: The redundant regulation valve for controlling fluid flow comprises a valve body defining a passage for the flow of the fluid, a main throttle element movable by means of a main control device to selectively obstruct the passage, and a redundant throttle element movable by means of a redundant control device. When the valve is in its closed position in normal operation, the main element and the redundant element are in contact with each other. In this normal closed position, the main element is close to its fully-extended position in the closure direction and it obstructs only about half of the passage, while the redundant element is in a position of medium extension. The stroke of the redundant element is such that the redundant element can be controlled to obstruct the entire passage even when the main element is in its fully-open position.

  • Patent number: 4664912
Abstract: In the large-scale production of rabies vaccine a cell stock comprising a VERO cell strain and a liquid nutritive medium containing serum and microcarriers suspended therein is successively passed into biogenerators of increasing volume. The last of the passages is carried out in a biogenerator having a volume of at least 150 liters. The liquid nutritive medium is drawn off at the end of the final passage and replaced with a serum-free liquid nutritive medium. The cell stock is inoculated in the last passage biogenerator with virus which is allowed to develop. The virus is then cultured, withdrawn and filtered. The filtered liquid suspension is then ultrafiltered, with inactivated beta-propiolactone and purified by zonal centrifugation or chromatography.

  • Patent number: 4630602
Abstract: A disposable contraceptive cervical barrier includes a bowl-shaped thin flexible member and a substantially thicker circular rim unitary with the flexible member. The rim provides a spring tension effect for helping to maintain the barrier in position. A plurality of cavities are formed in the rim and are equidistantly spaced therearound. The cavities are open so as to be capable of receiving and holding a quantity of a spermicide. Alternatively, the flexible member itself can be provided with a plurality of grooves for holding the spermicide. Preferably, the barrier is made from a mixture of a hydrophilic foam polymer and a more conventional polyurethane polyether prepolymer-catalyst system. The mixture is molded in a closed mold having a volume of about ten percent of the volume which the material would occupy if allowed to foam freely. The finished product is similar to an elastomer except that internally it has a dense cellular structure and is bounded by an impermeable skin.

  • Patent number: 4498000
Abstract: The invention relates to a method and devices allowing exchange of data between authorized bearers of crediting means (1) to be identified, approved and possibly coded and to remote centralized processing machines (3) via specific terminal units (2). The data produced by a bearer of a crediting means (1) after connection of said means (1) to a terminal unit (2) and sending of the identity of said means (1) are approved by a logic generation unit (15) of the means (1) from an individualization code and from transaction data. The invention applies to the exchange of data in an insecure environment and more particularly to bank credit card systems.

  • Patent number: 4387937
Abstract: A rotor centering device comprising two radial bearings each one constituted of first and second opposing members with angular contact races, mounted with axial clearance so that if one of the said members is in abutment, the other member has a radial clearance. The first angular contact centering members of the first and second bearings are also opposing, and the second angular contact centering members of the first and second bearings are likewise opposing, so that by relative axial movement of the inner and outer contact races of both first and second centering means belonging to the two bearings, simultaneous contact of the inner and outer faces is achieved either with the first centering members or with the second centering members which happen to be opposing on the two bearings.

  • Patent number: 4145918
Abstract: A freeze and thaw indicator is provided utilizing the expansion characteristics of water when it undergoes a change from the liquid state to the solid state. An ampul having one side made weaker than its opposite side is substantially filled with water. Indicator paper having ink printed on one side is situated adjacent to the ampul. The indicator paper and ampul are housed in a blister pack plastic container for protecting the ampul from breakage. When the temperature around the indicator reaches the freezing point of water, the ampul breaks. During a subsequent thawing, the water flows on to the indicator paper causing the ink which is printed on one side to wick up, thereby indicating that the freeze or thaw has taken place.

  • Patent number: 4136448
Abstract: A sealable edged aperture is produced in a can top by a generally triangular shaped cutting element which severs a flap-like portion from the can top. The cutting element also includes a wedging structure for folding a portion of the severed flap into abutting relationship with the underside of the can top to provide a discrete seal edge on the aperture. The cutting element is carried on a lever arm which is pivotally attached to a manually grippable element positioned adjacent the can sidewall. A bridging element is also provided at the pivot point to support the opener in the can.
