  • Patent number: 10126448
Abstract: A method of performing measurements of an earth formation includes disposing at least a first receiver and a second receiver in one or more monitoring boreholes in a formation, and injecting fluid into the formation from an injection borehole, wherein injecting includes operating a fluid control device to generate seismic and/or acoustic noise having an identifiable characteristic. The method also includes detecting seismic and/or acoustic signals at the first receiver and detecting seismic and/or acoustic signals at a second receiver, the seismic and/or acoustic signals corresponding to the seismic and/or acoustic noise, calculating an estimate of a Green's function between the first receiver and the second receiver by processing seismic and/or acoustic waves detected by the first receiver and the second receiver to at least partially reconstruct the Green's function, and estimating variations in a velocity of a region of the formation by determining variations in the reconstructed Green's function.

  • Publication number: 20170199290
Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed for attenuating noise during seismic acquisition. The method includes compiling a seismic data set from data received by a plurality of receivers. The seismic data set includes noise energy from a noise source. The method further includes calculating a plurality of cross-correlation panels based on a reference trace from a reference receiver. The reference receiver is one of the plurality of receivers. The method includes estimating the location of the noise source and applying a correction to the plurality of cross-correlation panels based on the estimated location of the noise source generating a plurality of corrected panels. The method also includes analyzing the plurality of corrected panels for a noise operator to attenuate noise in the seismic data set.

  • Publication number: 20130077438
Abstract: Systems and methods according to these exemplary embodiments provide for attenuating noise which interferes with recordings of a seismic source. A method includes: generating a reference trace for a noise source; generating a primary trace for the seismic source; generating a first estimated convolutional operator between the reference trace and the primary trace; convolving the operator with the reference trace for a time frame to generate an estimated noise for the time frame; and subtracting the estimated noise from the primary trace to generate an output signal.
