  • Publication number: 20200003641
Abstract: A power meter for cycling is capable of measuring a positional and/or alignment change of a first measurement location on a rigid component of a human-powered vehicle relative to a second measurement location. Power output by the cyclist during cycling is then calculated based upon the measured positional and/or alignment change. The positional and/or alignment change may be measured using, e.g., a magnet/magnetic-field sensor pair or by a light source/light sensor pair.

  • Publication number: 20190346004
Abstract: A shock absorber assembly for cycling includes a shock absorber (2a, 2b) for connecting two subassemblies that are movable relative to each other, and a distance sensor (15) that is fixedly disposed in the interior of, or on, the shock absorber or on one of the two subassemblies. The distance sensor senses, detects or determines measurement values that represent a momentary spacing between the two subassemblies, which spacing varies during cycling. The distance sensor (15) may be a time-of-flight sensor that uses light in the ultraviolet, visible or infrared wavelength range. A bicycle (1), such as a mountain bike or a racing bike, may include such a shock absorber assembly mounted thereon.

  • Patent number: 8286982
Abstract: The present invention relates to a suspension system for a bicycle of the type that comprises: a frame (1); a front fork (6) comprising a front damper (8); a swing arm (16) hinged to the frame (1) and a rear damper (25); and at least one shock sensor (30), said sensor (30) being connected to a monitoring unit (28) controlling the front damper (8) and/or rear damper (25) on the basis of the signal sent by said sensor (30); said system is noteworthy in that the front damper (8) and/or rear damper (25) is a variable-compression damper that has at least three positions, an open position in which compression is greatest, a closed position in which compression is zero, and a so-called medium position; and in that it has, as a minimum, means for detecting pedaling called pedaling sensors (29) connected to the monitoring unit (28) which, when pedaling is not detected by the pedaling sensor (29), sets the damper (8, 25) compression command to the open position and, when pedaling is detected by the pedaling sensor (29)

  • Publication number: 20110291382
Abstract: The invention relates to a rear suspension for a vehicle such as a bicycle, a motorcycle, or the like, which comprises a chassis referred to as a frame (1), a swinging arm (12) hinged to the frame (1) and supporting the axle (14) of the hub of a driving wheel (15), and a shock absorber (27) having ends respectively connected to the frame (1) and the swinging arm (12), the driving torque being transmitted to the driving wheel by a transmission means, and a crankset housing (16) hinged to the frame (1) by a first hinge means (19) interacting with a second hinge means (22) hinged to the swinging arm (12). The suspension is characterised in that the rotation axis (21) between the first hinge means (19) and the second hinge means (22), the rotation axis (23) between the second hinge means (22) and the swinging arm (12), and the rotation axis (13) of the swinging arm (12) relative to the frame (1) are substantially aligned when the bicycle is in the so-called SAG static balance position.
