  • Publication number: 20020070873
Abstract: A method and an apparatus for an adaptive remote controller are provided. The remote controller comprises a user control input, a detector, and a user interface. The user control input is configured to receive user input and issue at least one control signal to a target device. The detector is configured to detect if the remote controller is within a target device feedback range. If the remote controller is out of the target device feedback range, the user interface provides feedback that the control signal was successfully sent to and executed by the target device.

  • Publication number: 20020069419
Abstract: A system and method for streaming video information to a user device includes an event server that provides restricted access to various types of event content information and services related to a particular event. A wireless portable user device may provide an access code to the event server at a particular event location through a wireless base station that is coupled to a local area network. A system user may thereby utilize the user device to access the event server for downloading appropriate event content information and related services. The event content information may include a direct broadcast of streaming video produced by a video service provider from local video cameras positioned at the particular event. In addition, the event content information may include a plurality of event broadcasts that may be generated by the event server after receiving and storing program information from the local video cameras, the Internet, and various external program sources.

  • Publication number: 20020068631
Abstract: A system and method to support electronic gaming in an electronic network includes an event server that provides restricted access to various types of game services. One or more system users may utilize corresponding wireless portable user devices for connecting to the event server to thereby gain access to the foregoing game services as game participants. The system users may thereby utilize the user devices to access the event server for accessing appropriate gaming services and related information. In addition, a source system user may utilize a source user device to perform a transfer procedure for transferring ownership rights of an electronic certificate related to the electronic gaming to a target system user through a target user device. The foregoing transfer procedure may be conducted through the event server, or may occur directly from the source user device to the target user device.

  • Publication number: 20020068573
Abstract: A system and method for selectively providing information to a user device includes an event server that provides restricted access to various types of event content information and services related to a particular event. A wireless portable user device may provide an access code to the event server at a particular event location through a wireless base station that is coupled to a local area network. A system user may thereby utilize the user device to access the event server for downloading appropriate event content information and related services until the foregoing access code expires.

  • Publication number: 20020069243
Abstract: A system and method for effectively providing user information from a user device includes an event server that provides restricted access to various types of event content information and services related to a particular event or user community. A wireless portable user device may provide an access code to the event server at a particular event location through a wireless base station that is coupled to a local area network. A system user may thereby utilize the user device to access the event server for downloading appropriate event content information and related community services. The user device may provide one or more different types of profiles and other user feedback to the event server to thereby enable the event server to effectively associate the user device with appropriate event content or other types of related community services.

  • Patent number: 6330717
Abstract: A process and system for compiling an application program for a distributed adaptive run-time platform. Using the present software run-time environment, application designers would be able to quickly develop distributed adaptive software, such as network or web software, without having to deal with the details of the distribution and adaptation. In one embodiment, compile-time and run-time components configure the application execution environments depending on hints provided with the application. In order to offer application designers an easy and intuitive access to the platform services, the present invention further comprises a compiler for assisting application designers in developing the complex code required by the platform, and for providing an easy access to services provided by the platform.

  • Patent number: 6324619
Abstract: A method and system for managing run-time adaptation for general purpose distributed adaptive applications. Using the present software run-time environment, application designers would be able to quickly develop distributed adaptive software, such as network or web software, without having to deal with the details of the distribution and adaptation. To achieve both distribution and adaptation, meta-level object programming techniques and run-time monitoring techniques are applied. Importantly, a run-time adaptation manager is provided for configuring the application execution environments, and for managing adaptations for both reflective methods and adaptive methods. In addition, the adaptation manager coordinates the adaptation of multiple objects in a coherent manner by keeping track of instances of the adaptive classes and the platform services that they are using. The adaptation manager also records the adaptation policies and monitors the system state and user preferences.

  • Patent number: 4406586
Abstract: A device to convert wave energy into mechanical energy, comprises a buoyant structure whose upper portion is in the region of wave action but whose lower section is below the region of wave action, so that the water adjacent the upper and lower sections of the structure has vertical movement relative to itself. This relative movement is used to rotate a vertical shaft having radially extending horizontal axles on which panels are pivotally mounted. Ballast and/or floats are used to impose on the panels a bias tending to maintain them horizontal. The relative movement of the water is used to impel fluid vertically relative to the panels in alternatingly opposite directions; and the bias imposed by the ballast and/or floats thus causes a planing wing action of the panels which impels the shaft in rotation in one direction regardless of the direction of the movement of the impelling fluid. The floating structure can rise and fall with the waves (FIGS.
