  • Patent number: 4530799
Abstract: A new betaine salt corresponding to the formula (CH.sub.3).sub.3 N.sup.+ --CH.sub.2 --COO.sup.-.Na.sup.+.Cl.sup.-.2H.sub.2 O is disclosed. It is obtained in pure crystalline form by preparing a starting aqueous solution containing the ions (CH.sub.3).sub.3 N.sup.+ --CH.sub.2 --COO.sup.-, Na.sup.+ and Cl.sup.- whose composition, as illustrated in a ternary diagram of betaine-NaCl-water shown in the drawing, is situated in an area between two lines diverging from a common point T and passing through the points I and II, adding to the starting solution betaine, sodium chloride and water in molar proportions of 1:1:2 or betaine hydrochloride, sodium hydroxide and water in molar proportions of 1:1:1, and thereafter separating the double betaine salt by crystallization at a temperature below 50.degree. C. The double betaine salt is useful as a seasoning.

  • Patent number: 4506080
Abstract: A process for the separation of serotonine from coffee wax wherein a solution of coffee wax is subjected to alkaline hydrolysis using a strong base in the presence of water in an inert atmosphere after which the reaction medium containing the serotonine is recovered characterized in that the solvent for the coffee wax is a compound having the general formula II:R--(OC.sub.2 H.sub.4).sub.x --OC.sub.n H.sub.2n OH IIwherein R is hydrogen or an alkyl group containing from 1 to 4 carbon atoms, x is 0 or 1 and n is an integer from 2 to 4 with the proviso that x cannot be 1 when n is 3 or 4. N-acetyl serotonine is prepared by acetylating serotonine to N, O-diacetyl serotonine and then selectively hydrolyzing the O-acetyl group. Melatonine is obtained by methylating N-acetyl serotonine in the 5-position. Mexamine is obtained by de-acetylating melatonine in a hot alkaline solution containing a water-insoluble alcohol and acidifying the alcohol phase with hydrochloric acid.

  • Patent number: 4399128
Abstract: A pharmaceutical carrier or excipient comprises milk solids and tripotassium phosphate. It is especially suitable for preparing compositions containing moisture-sensitive active ingredients, which may also be acidic in character. The carrier is especially suitable for compounding with ASA (acetylsalicylic acid) to give compositions which disperse readily on contact with water. The resulting solutions are buffered and contain neutralized ASA dissolved in a liquid milk phase.

  • Patent number: 4307246
Abstract: From a mixture of isoleucine and leucine in a ratio by weight of at least 3:7, the isoleucine is precipitated in an anhydrous solvent, particularly methyl ethyl ketone, using concentrated sulphuric acid. The precipitate is separated and freed from sulphuric acid, for example by neutralisation with barium hydroxide after elimination of the solvent. Industrial production of marketable isoleucine from a mixture still containing leucine.

  • Patent number: 4293581
Abstract: An animal feed component is prepared by subjecting spent coffee grounds to a saponification treatment in an aqueous reaction medium, acidifying the medium to a pH below 5 and recovering an animal feed component by drying the acidified medium. The grounds may optionally be subjected to an oxidation treatment after saponification.

  • Patent number: 4075329
Abstract: A process for protecting organic materials such as food-grade materials with a bacteriostatic agent, wherein an extract obtained from unroasted coffee is used as the bacteriostatic agent.

  • Patent number: 4052372
Abstract: A process for the preparation of .epsilon.-(.gamma.-glutamyl)-lysine which comprises heating lysine glutamate for at least 5 hours at a temperature of at least 120.degree. C by means of an inert heat-carrier fluid, and isolating .epsilon.-(.gamma.-glutamyl)-lysine from the conversion product thus obtained. The inert heat-carrier fluid can be either a gas such as air or nitrogen, or a liquid such as n-amylalcohol, kerosene, nonane, 1,1,2,2-tetrachloroethane, 1-octanol or 2-ethyl-1-butanol.

  • Patent number: 3979449
Abstract: A process for the preparation of compounds of the general formula ##EQU1## (in which n is an integer equal to 1 or 2 and X and Y which may be the same or different are hydrogen atoms or organic groups, except that when n=2 not more than one of X and Y may represent a hydrogen atom) in which a compound of the general formula ##EQU2## (in which M.sup.+ represents a cation, R represents an aliphatic group containing 1 to 3 carbon atoms and X, Y and n have the meanings given above) is reacted with ammonia in an aqueous medium and thereafter the compound of formula (I) is liberated by acidification of the reaction medium.
