    Abstract: Process for producing .alpha.-amino .omega.-ester monoamides such as H.sub.2 N--(CH.sub.2).sub.6 --NH--CO--(CH.sub.2).sub.4 --CO--OCH.sub.3 by reacting a diacid with a diamide at a diamine/diester molar ratio of 0.8 and 1.2 is provided. Additionally, a novel process for producing a polyamide by homopolymerization of an .alpha.-amino .omega.-ester monoamide is provided.
