Abstract: Process for controlling the retention time of the sludge undergoing clarification in a process for treating wastewater by activated sludge comprising a recirculation of the activated sludge from the clarification stage into the biological basins, characterized in that the rate of sludge recirculation (Qr) is varied so as to maintain a constant recirculated sludge concentration (Cr) while at the same time guaranteeing a retention time (RT) of the sludge undergoing clarification of less than a critical value (RTmax).

Abstract: A large round baler is equipped with a device for wrapping a bale formed in the baling chamber of the baler with a web of plastic sheeting or net wrapping medium. A supply roll of the wrapping medium is located in a box mounted forward of the baling chamber for movement along a fore-and-aft extending guide rail between a standby position, wherein a free end of the wrapping medium is supported by a guide surface at a location spaced forward of the baling chamber, and a wrapping position, wherein the free end of the wrapping medium is located for being grabbed by rotating rollers and/or the formed bale so that a length of the wrapping medium is pulled from the supply roll as it is wrapped about the bale. A power operated brake operates on the supply roll so as to provide a constant tension in the wrapping medium during wrapping operation.

Abstract: The invention concerns a device (1) and a method for processing information derived from coded data stored in a smart card (2), corresponding to operations associated with at least a user-loyalty developing program aimed at a tradesman. The device comprises reading means (3), read/write storage means (5, 6), computing means (6, 7) and data display means (8, 9) The smart card memory comprises several data registers (15) respectively assigned to several different tradesmen and/or corresponding to several loyalty developing programs, comprising files concerning the behavior of the card bearer with the tradesman/tradesmen concerned. The computing means (6, 7, 8) include means for homogeneously formatting the data derived from the registers, the display means (8,9) being designed to display the data homogeneously as well.

Abstract: A process is disclosed for regulating the aeration in a biological wastewater treatment plant using a carbon removal stage, a nitrification stage and a denitrification stage. The process includes the step of continuously measuring the value of oxidation-reduction potential of the treated medium as well as measuring oxygen concentration of the treated medium during aeration phases. This permits maintaining aeration if the oxygen concentration falls within a preselected reference range. Alternately there is reduction of the aeration if the oxygen concentration is above the preselected reference range, or increasing the aeration if the oxygen concentration falls below the preselected reference range.

Abstract: A three axis stabilized geostationary satellite comprises a structure having walls that face North and South when the satellite is on station and carrying at a storage battery of large capacity. The storage battery is constituted by cells mounted on a chassis having a base plate oriented North-South and mechanically secured to sides that face North and South when the satellite is on station. The sides carry thermal radiators that are thermally connected to each other and to the cells. Typically sides are in alignment with North and South faces of the structure and extend away from the Earth.

Abstract: The apparatus comprises a coherent radiation source which emits, in succession, respective ones of a plurality of different wavelengths. The emitted radiation is separated into a reference portion and a measurement portion. The measurement portion propagates through a medium such as the atmosphere to be analyzed and is received by a measurement detector. The reference portion is received directly by a reference detector. A processing circuit processes signals representing the portions, produced by the detectors to produce numerical data relating to the spectral analysis of the medium.
