  • Publication number: 20140181088
Abstract: Exemplary methods, apparatuses, and systems request and receive network service activity data for a user. The received activity data is parsed to identify one or more subjects of the user activity. A plurality of cells is searched for a cell corresponding to the identified subject. Each of the plurality of cells includes displayable data about a subject and links assigned, respectively, to a causal context relationship, inclusion contextual relationship, temporal contextual relationship, and spatial contextual relationship. Each of the links provides a navigation link from the cell to the corresponding context cell. In response to the search, it is determined that a first cell within the plurality of cells includes displayable data about the identified subject and one of the links is identified as being defined as a highlighted contextual relationship and transmitted with a representation of the identified subject to a user device for display.

  • Patent number: 7994410
Abstract: A method is provided to compare recordings that includes providing a list of a plurality of recordings and selecting at least a first recording and a second recording from the plurality of recordings. The first recording and the second recording have predetermined lengths. The method also includes selecting a first portion of the first recording, identifying a second portion of the second recording based on the first portion, and comparing the first portion to the second portion. When the entire length of the recording is selected as the first portion, the entire length of the second recording can be identified as the second portion. Identifying a second portion may also include normalizing it to the first portion. Also, identifying the second portion can include translating the first portion into a wave-form, searching the second recording for another wave-form similar to the translated wave-form, and matching the translated wave form with the similar wave-form.

  • Patent number: 5881234
Abstract: A system capable of granting Internet access to users when direct connection to their usual home Internet Service Providers (ISPs) is impossible, impractical or prohibitively expensive. The system offers users a unified method of login to other independent ISPs to provide easy and inexpensive access to the Internet and its various services. The system validates user logins, generates billing data, provides usage time and monitors communication links. The system also isolates the shells of the servers of the ISPs from the user until such time as the user has been determined to be valid, thereby providing security to the ISPs against unauthorized access to their servers. The system performs these tasks while requiring only a small amount of communication bandwidth for communication monitoring and billing.

  • Patent number: 5732338
Abstract: A broadcasting system capable of automatically or semi-automatically updating its database and using the database to identify received broadcasting stations, and search for stations according to user-chosen attributes and current data. The receiver is capable of receiving current location information within the received data stream, and also of determining the current location of the receiver by using a received station attribute. The receiver is capable of identifying and searching for, any station in any band the receiver is capable of receiving.A broadcasting/receiving system, including a factory or user installed database containing a skeleton of scheduling information, provides a generic format-scanning ability to the user without forcing him or her to subscribe to an updating service, and provides an automatic identification means to that user.

  • Patent number: 4969209
Abstract: A broadcast receiver is capable of selecting a broadcast station based upon a user selected program format and the geographical location of the receiver. The receiver includes a memory storing a database of information relating to frequencies of broadcast stations broadcasting into particular geographical locations and the program format of each such broadcast frequency. After a user inputs the geographical location of the receiver and a desired program format, the database may be scanned to select a broadcast frequency corresponding to the input geographical location and program format for retrieval. This selected frequency is used to tune the receiver. The geographical location, identification information, and program format for the selected frequency are then visually displayed.
