  • Patent number: 7702168
Abstract: The process for coding the current block comprises a step of selecting the predicted block from among candidate blocks, the selection being dependent on a difference DBdrx, dry between the co-located block of the current image block lying in an image of type B and the block of a reference image, the latter block being designated by the motion vector with components drx, dry which is allocated to co-located block and which is colinear with the motion vector Vp allocated to the current block and designating the candidate block. The process relates to data compression, the transmission of digital images using the video coding standard comprising a direct prediction mode, for example the h263, MPEG4 or h261 standard.

  • Patent number: 7408987
Abstract: The method includes segmentation of the video image into image blocks, movement estimation per image block in order to obtain a field of movement vectors. It is characterized in that it includes a stage of reassignment of a vector to a block by selecting one movement vector from among N predominant vectors belonging to the field of vectors. The applications relate to movement estimation, for example, by image-block matching.

  • Publication number: 20060008005
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method and a device for hierarchical estimation of motion intended to choose a motion vector from among a plurality of motion vectors for a set of blocks of an origin image divided into blocks. A calculation of an energy function over the set of blocks for each of the motion vectors is carried out. This calculation implements a substep of size of calculation of a Lagrangian constraint adapted to the size of the set of blocks. A choice of a motion vector is carried out by minimizing the energy function over the said set of blocks.

  • Publication number: 20060008007
Abstract: The method containing a pre-analysis phase with pel-recursive type motion estimation and an actual coding phase with block matching motion estimation for picture blocks constituted by one or more sub-blocks, wherein the coding phase also comprises a motion vector selection stage for the picture sub-blocks based on the motion vectors calculated by matching for the block containing the sub-block and based on the motion vectors calculated by the pel-recursive type estimation for the pixels or the pixel groups belonging to the sub-block, and a calculation stage of the best partition of a picture block into sub-blocks based on the correlation calculations taking into account the motion vectors selected from the sub-blocks constituting a block.

  • Patent number: 6934333
Abstract: The process utilizing the inter mode with motion estimation with respect to a reference image and the intra mode, wherein: an exclusion zone which includes the macroblocks which lie even partially in the location of the imagette is defined in the image, the motion estimation of the macroblocks of the image not belonging to the exclusion zone cannot take account of an image block belonging to the exclusion zone in the reference image. Applications relate to the coding of images which is compatible with the inserting of logos or other imagettes specific to the utilizer. They also relate to the real-time coding of images comprising insets.

  • Patent number: 6535555
Abstract: The invention concerns a method comprising a step which consists in a quantizing step relative to a pixel or group of pixels in accordance with a desired rate. The invention is characterized in that it comprises an additional step which consists in modifying the quantizing step on the basis of an information of a subjective nature concerning said pixel or group of pixels. The invention is applicable to compression of video images.

  • Patent number: 6393057
Abstract: The process is characterized in that the second data stream is modified before transmission, by replacing coding information for the first inter pictures of bidirectional type following the intra picture of the first GOP of the second sequence after the switching point, when considering the order of coding of the pictures, with predefined picture coding information whose coding cost is less than or equal to that of the initial pictures. Applications relate to the transmission and storage of programs, editing, etc.

  • Patent number: 6148107
Abstract: A block based signal compression system, as for example for coding video signal, and employing quantization of codewords or transform coefficients includes circuitry for adaptively controlling the quantization. Adaptivity of quantization is made a function of several parameters. One parameter is coding cost or bandwidth, wherein coding cost is generated on a macroblock basis but averaged over a window of macroblocks centered on a macroblock currently to be quantized. Another parameter is block or macroblock motion attributes, wherein block motion attribut values are used to modify the quantizing function.
