  • Patent number: 5243026
Abstract: An improved, continuous, gas-phase process for the production of linear alternating polymers of carbon monoxide and at least one ethylenically unsaturated hydrocarbon in the presence of a supported catalyst composition, the catalyst composition being formed from a compound of palladium, a Lewis acid and a bidentate ligand of phosphorus, includes return to the polymerization reactor of relatively small particles of polyketone polymer products after catalyst composition has been supplied to the particles.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: September 14, 1992
Date of Patent: September 7, 1993
    Assignee: Shell Oil Company
Inventors: Pieter A. Gautier, Johannes J. Keijsper, Rudolf J. Wijngaarden
  • Patent number: 5059678
Abstract: An improved process for the production of linear alternating polymers of carbon monoxide and at least one ethylenically unsaturated hydrocarbon comprises contacting the carbon monoxide and ethylenically unsaturated hydrocarbon under polymerization conditions in inert reaction diluent in the presence of a catalyst composition formed from a compound of palladium, a bidentate ligand of phosphorus, sulfur or nitrogen and an alkyl ester or anhydride of a monocarboxylic or dicarboxylic acid.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: September 27, 1990
Date of Patent: October 22, 1991
    Assignee: Shell Oil Company
Inventors: Johannes A. M. Van Broekhoven, Pieter A. Gautier, Eit Drent, Wiebren A. Miedema
  • Patent number: 5021547
Abstract: An improved process for the production of linear alternating polymers of carbon monoxide and at least one ethylenically unsaturated hydrocarbon by contacting the carbon monoxide and hydrocarbon under polymerization conditions in the presence of a catalyst composition formed from a palladium compound, a strong non-hydrohalogenic acid and a bidentate ligand of phosphorus, nitrogen or sulfur comprises conducting the polymerization in a continuous manner in two or more reactors connected in series.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: May 24, 1990
Date of Patent: June 4, 1991
    Assignee: Shell Oil Company
Inventors: Pieter A. Gautier, Maarten M. Geuze, Barend Mastenbroek, Leonardus Petrus
  • Patent number: 4191843
Abstract: A process for the preparation of bisphenols is described which comprises reacting, in a reaction zone, at least 2 moles of a phenol with a carbonyl compound, at a temperature of from 40.degree. to 95.degree. C., in the presence of an acid ion exchanger, optionally partially modified with a compound having an acidic reacting group and a mercaptan group, and recovering the bisphenols from the reaction zone effluent, characterized in that the reaction zone effluent is contacted with an acid ion exchanger in metal salt form and/or a weak base ion exchanger. As a result, it has been found that the formation of undesirable compounds is substantially reduced.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: November 7, 1978
Date of Patent: March 4, 1980
    Assignee: Shell Oil Company
Inventors: Arien Kwantes, Pieter A. Gautier
  • Patent number: 4045379
Abstract: An improved process for preparing bisphenols is described wherein a phenol is reacted with a ketone or aldehyde such as acetone in the presence of an ion-exchange resin modified by partial neutralization with p-aminothiophenol.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: July 26, 1976
Date of Patent: August 30, 1977
    Assignee: Shell Oil Company
Inventors: Arien Kwantes, Pieter A. Gautier, Anthony L. Farragher
