Abstract: A thermoplastic polyurethane obtained from a reaction mixture comprising: (a) at least one cyclic polyisocyanate, and (b) at least one polyol, in which the thermoplastic polyurethane has gas barrier characteristics which are better than the gas barrier characteristics of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) measured under the same circumstances, wherein the thermoplastic polyurethane is an essentially amorphous material based on the absence of a melting peak in a DSC curve, and the thermoplastic polyurethane has a glass transition temperature Tg situated between 60° C. and 99.5° C. in a DSC curve, and both curves were obtained with differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) as mentioned in the description.
