Patent number: 6721030Abstract: To form a brightness enhancement film of cholesteric liquid crystal, a photopolymerizable liquid crystal is first formed on a first substrate. A second substrate then is formed on the liquid crystal substance to form a sandwich structure. The sandwich structure is subsequently submitted to a lamination process that generates shear stress thereon. Finally, an energetic irradiation including UV irradiation is performed to solidify the layer of liquid crystal into a liquid crystal polymer film. The second substrate then is selectively removed. The above steps are repeated until a desired reflected wavelength range of the liquid crystal film is obtained.Type: GrantFiled: September 10, 2002Date of Patent: April 13, 2004Assignee: Industrial Technology Research InstituteInventors: Pao-Ju Hsieh, Hui-Lung Kuo, Ping-Yao Wu, Wen-Bing Chu

Patent number: 4265716Abstract: Aluminous ore such as bauxite containing alumina is blended with coke or other suitable form of carbon and reacted with sulfur gas at an elevated temperature. For handling, the ore and coke can be extruded into conveniently sized pellets. The reaction with sulfur gas produces molten aluminum sulfide which is separated from residual solid reactants and impurities. The aluminum sulfide is further increased in temperature to cause its decomposition or sublimation, yielding aluminum subsulfide liquid (AlS) and sulfur gas that is recycled. The aluminum monosulfide is then cooled to below its disproportionation temperature to again form molten aluminum sulfide and aluminum metal. A liquid-liquid or liquid-solid separation, depending on the separation temperature, provides product aluminum and aluminum sulfide for recycle to the disproportionation step.Type: GrantFiled: June 14, 1979Date of Patent: May 5, 1981Assignee: The United States of America as represented by the United States Department of EnergyInventors: Raouf O.
