  • Publication number: 20210196622
Abstract: The present invention relates to bioceramics obtained from shark teeth, either from tooth enamel, dentine, or a mixture of both, for its use in the treatment of hard tissue injuries or pathologies. The invention can also be used in a dentifrice or mouthwash for the prevention of dental caries, remineralization of teeth or to inhibit dental sensitivity.

  • Patent number: 10238291
Abstract: The present invention relates to a quantitative ex vivo method for the complementary diagnosis of the degree of dental demineralization through the use of Raman spectroscopy, which comprises quantifying the intensities and areas of a plurality of Stoke bands of the spectrum, and defining and calculating indices that result from dividing the areas of certain bands of interest. The diagnosis is determined by the proximity of the values of these indices to the values previously obtained for the normal pattern of dental mineralization established by analyzing healthy dental parts. This method provides a complementary biomedical technique for quantitative ex vivo analysis of the degree of dental demineralization on dental tissue remains extracted by medical prescription, and the information obtained will facilitate the prescription of suitable treatment to reduce or prevent said demineralization.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: April 21, 2016
Date of Patent: March 26, 2019
    Assignee: UNIVERSIDADE DE VIGO
Inventors: Pio Manuel González Fernández, Stefano Chiussi, Benigno Coello Delgado, Maria Rodríguez Domínguez, Miriam López Álvarez, Julia Serra Rodríguez

  • Patent number: 8310670
Abstract: Disclosed embodiments include methods for cleaning wax, substantially equivalent impurities, and other contaminants from porous stones in historical monuments and artworks using nondestructive means. According to one embodiment the method for removal of contaminants from porous stones using laser comprises the following method steps: (a) identifying regions of a contaminant on the porous stone monument; (b) characterizing the contaminant on the porous stone monument; (c) exposing the contaminant on the porous stone monument to irradiation from a laser characterized by a wavelength, a pulse length, a repetition rate, and a laser energy fluence determined and optimized for a given contaminant-porous stone system and the laser characteristics; and (d) adaptively evaluating the cleaning results by quantifying the thickness of the remaining contaminant.

Date of Patent: November 13, 2012
    Assignee: Universidade de Vigo
Inventors: Betty Mireya Leon Fong, Aldara Pan Cabo, Stefano Chiussi, Esther Rebollar Gonzalez, Julia De La Asuncion Serra Rodriguez, Pio Manuel Gonzalez Fernandez

  • Patent number: 6339913
Abstract: The osteointegration of osseous fixing implants may be improved through a series of surface treatments. These treatments comprise a cleaning and passivation process, the application of a coating of CaUPVHXOYCZ to the implant, where subindexes u, v, x, y, and z are natural numbers including zero with variable stoichiometry, and a sterilization process by irradiation. The flexibility of this method provides for the control of physical and chemical properties of the obtained surface in order to match the properties with those of the bone in which the implant will be placed.
