  • Patent number: 11391513
Abstract: The invention relates to a process and apparatus for ultrasonic assisted drying of materials, in particular, but not exclusively, for the low temperature drying of materials that are heat sensitive. In particular, there is provided an apparatus for dehydration of water containing material comprising: an ultrasound emitter; an ultrasound transmission platform that directly or indirectly supports said material; a fluid retained between said emitter and said platform, through which ultrasound energy is transferred; and a gas stream device that directs drying gas to said material.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: July 19, 2018
Date of Patent: July 19, 2022
Assignee: Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation
Inventors: Henry Sabarez, Piotr Swiergon, Kai Knoerzer

  • Publication number: 20180343713
Abstract: A microwave heating apparatus and method of heating. The microwave heating apparatus including: a housing that contains a heating chamber adapted to receive an article to be heated, the chamber being at least partially defined by electromagnetic shielding; a microwave source for generating microwaves, the microwave source being located outside of the heating chamber; and an antenna arranged substantially within the heating chamber and configured to supply the generated microwaves substantially within the heating chamber, the antenna being configured to directly deliver the generated microwaves to the article in a substantially uniform manner.

  • Patent number: 9371502
Abstract: A method of extracting recovering oil from vegetable material in which oil bearing material is heated and subjected to sonication at least one frequency above 400 kHz, removing a first yield of oil by decanting and subjecting the retained material to centrifugal separation to separate out a second yield of oil. Preferably the raw vegetable material is passed through a screw press and the obtained material is heated and subjected to the ultrasonic treatment and then allowed to settle for a predetermined period before decanting the oil layer. Preferably two frequencies above 400 kHz are used, one below 1 MHz and the second from 1 MHz. There are many potential transducers arrangements possible for producing standing waves.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 7, 2012
Date of Patent: June 21, 2016
Assignee: COMMONWEALTH SCIENTIFIC AND INDUSTRIAL RESEARCH ORGANISATION
Inventors: Mary Ann Augustin, Pablo Juliano, Raymond Mawson, Piotr Swiergon, Kai Knoerzer
