  • Publication number: 20140296428
Abstract: The present invention relates to isocyanate functional prepolymers, aqueous polyurethane dispersions produced from the prepolymers and various uses of such dispersions. The prepolymers are prepared by reacting a diisocyanate, a dihydroxy compound having a number average molecular weight of from about 700 to about 16,000, and a trihydroxy component of the formula: R—(OH)3 where R is a saturated straight chain or branched chain aliphatic group of from 2 to 8 carbon atoms. The invention also relates to polyurethane dispersions prepared from the prepolymers and to various uses of the resultant dispersions.

  • Patent number: 7045573
Abstract: Isocyanate-functional polyurethane prepolymers and aqueous dispersions therefrom which are useful for the production of flat materials having excellent resistance to alcoholic solvents are described. The prepolymers are prepared by reacting: A) an isocyanate selected from the group consisting of i) an aliphatic and/or a cycloaliphatic isocyanate, ii) a mixture of an aromatic isocyanate and an aliphatic and/or a cycloaliphatic isocyanate, B) a di- or polyhydroxy compound having a number average molecular weight of from 700 to about 16,000, and C) optionally, a dihydroxy and/or polyhydroxyl compound having a number average molecular weight of less than 700, with the provisos that a) at least one of components A), B or C) has a functionality of more than 2 and b) if both component A) and component B) are difunctional, component C) cannot be a trihydroxy component of the formula: R—(OH)3 ?where R is a saturated straight chain or branched chain aliphatic group of from 2 to 8 carbon atoms.

  • Patent number: 6111010
Abstract: The present invention relates to aqueous solutions or dispersions of compounds, which contain 0.5 to 6% by weight of alkoxysilane and/or silanol groups (calculated as Si, MW 28), based on the weight of the compounds containing alkoxysilane groups, and are substantially free from isocyanate groups and chemically incorporated hydrophilic groups, wherein the alkoxysilane groups are initially incorporated by the reaction of a polyisocyanate with an amino compound corresponding to formula I ##STR1## wherein X represents identical or different organic groups which are inert to isocyanate groups below 100.degree. C., provided that at least one of these groups is an alkoxy group,Y represents a linear or branched alkylene group having 1 to 8 carbon atoms andR.sub.1 represents an organic group which is inert to isocyanate groups at a temperature of 100.degree. C. or less. The present invention also relates to coating, adhesive or sealing compositions containing these aqueous compounds as the binder.

  • Patent number: 5082698
Abstract: This invention relates to aqueous epoxy resin-containing compositions and to such compositions which are particularly useful for depositing coatings on metallic substrates in order to protect substrates against corrosion. The aqueous compositions generally comprise (A) an organic resin component consisting essentially of at least one water-dispersible or emulsifiable epoxy resin or a mixture of resins containing more than 50% by weight of at least one water-dispersible or emulsifiable epoxy resin, (B) chromium trioxide, and (C) water, said composition further characterized as being substantially free of strontium chromate. The aqueous compositions may also contain other ingredients including zinc and/or ferro alloys. These aqueous compositions are useful as pretreatment coatings on metal surfaces, and in particular, on steel and on galvanized and aluminized metal substrates.
