  • Publication number: 20060020080
Abstract: The present invention relates to isocyanate functional prepolymers, aqueous polyurethane dispersions produced from the prepolymers and various uses of such dispersions. The prepolymers are prepared by reacting a diisocyanate, a dihydroxy compound having a number average molecular weight of from about 700 to about 16,000, and a trihydroxy component of the formula: R—(OH)3 where R is a saturated straight chain or branched chain aliphatic group of from 2 to 8 carbon atoms. The invention also relates to polyurethane dispersions prepared from the prepolymers and to various uses of the resultant dispersions.

  • Publication number: 20050287349
Abstract: A method of coil coating a metal strip that includes applying to the metal strip, a coating composition that includes a binder containing a) a polyol component, which is soluble or dispersible in water; and b) a polyisocyanate component, which is soluble or dispersible in water and has blocked isocyanate groups. Metal substrates coated according to the method can be used to make articles.

  • Publication number: 20050277732
Abstract: A two-component coating composition that includes (A) a first component containing an acid functional aliphatic polyester polyol having an acid number of at least 20 mg KOH/g and a hydroxyl number of from 50 to 500 mg KOH/g, and (B) a second component comprising one or more polyisocyanates. The composition can be used to coat metal substrates by (i) mixing components (A) and (B) in the above-described composition to form a mixture; and (ii) applying the mixture to a surface of a metal substrate.

  • Patent number: 6057415
Abstract: The present invention relates to compounds having an isocyanate group content (calculated as NCO, MW 42) of 0.2 to 20% by weight and an alkoxysilane group content (calculated as Si, MW 28) of 0.2 to 4.5% by weight, wherein the preceding percentages are the weight of the compounds, and containing sufficient chemically incorporated hydrophilic groups to form a stable dispersion in water, wherein the alkoxysilane groups are incorporated as the reaction product ofi) a polyisocyanate component having a minimum average functionality of 2.4 and containing at least 50% by weight of polyisocyanate adducts andii) compounds containing secondary amino groups and alkoxysilane groups. The present invention is also directed to the use of these compounds in admixture with isocyanate-reactive resins in aqueous, two-component coating, adhesive and sealant compositions.

  • Patent number: 5945476
Abstract: The present invention relates to aqueous two-component compositions containinga) compounds which are substantially free from isocyanate groups, have an alkoxysilane group content (calculated as Si, MW 28) of 1 to 6% by weight, based on the weight of the compounds, and contain sufficient chemically incorporated hydrophilic groups to form a stable dispersion with water, wherein the alkoxysilane groups are incorporated as the reaction products ofi) a polyisocyanate component having a minimum average functionality of 2.4 and containing at least 50% by weight of polyisocyanate adducts andii) compounds containing secondary amino groups and alkoxysilane groups, andb) polyhydroxy compounds containing ester and/or carbonate groups and having a urethane group content of less than 5% by weight, based on the weight of the polyhydroxy compounds. The present invention also relates to coatings, adhesives and sealants prepared from these aqueous compositions and to compounds a) containing urea and alkoxysilane groups.
