Patent number: 11318808Abstract: A blower unit for a heating, ventilation, and air conditioner system (HVAC) of a vehicle. The blower unit includes an inside/outside air switching box. A switching door disposed in the inside/outside air switching box that is configured to selectively open and close an inside air introduction port and an outside air introduction port of the inside/outside air switching box. A fan is also located inside the inside/outside air switching box and blows air introduced into the inside/outside air switching box from the inside air introduction port and the outside air introduction port into the passenger compartment. A first plurality of ribs is provided on an inner surface of the switching door with a first perforated panel coupled to each of the first plurality of ribs. The first plurality of ribs and the first perforated panel reduce noise generated during an inside air introduction mode.Type: GrantFiled: September 13, 2018Date of Patent: May 3, 2022Assignees: DENSO International America, Inc., DENSO CORPORATIONInventors: Prakash T. Patent number: 8998587Abstract: A blower unit for a vehicle including a fan, a motor, a scroll case, a cooling chamber, a first partition, and a second partition. The fan is configured to generate airflow. The motor is connected to the fan. The scroll case accommodates the fan. The cooling chamber is connected to the scroll case and defines a cooling path for guiding airflow from the fan to the motor. The first partition is arranged in the cooling path. The second partition is arranged in the cooling path spaced apart from the first partition.Type: GrantFiled: December 16, 2011Date of Patent: April 7, 2015Assignee: DENSO International America, Inc.Inventors: Prakash T. Patent number: 8783413Abstract: The present teachings provide for an airflow sound suppressor, such as for an HVAC assembly, for example. The sound suppressor includes a first end configured to be mounted to a first surface of the HVAC assembly. A second end of the sound suppressor is configured to be mounted to a second surface of the HVAC assembly. An elongated portion extends between the first end and the second end. The elongated portion defines a passageway therethrough that extends an entire length of the sound suppressor.Type: GrantFiled: March 13, 2013Date of Patent: July 22, 2014Assignee: DENSO International America, Inc.Inventors: Prakash T. Thawani, Steve Sinadinos, Justin Black

Patent number: 5679073Abstract: A door assembly for controlling air flow through a motor vehicle climate control system includes a door panel having a pair of opposed faces and a terminal edge. A seal member is attached to at least one of the pair of opposed faces and has a terminal edge generally disposed along the terminal edge of the panel. A film member overlies the seal member and also has a terminal edge generally disposed along the terminal edge of the panel. The terminal edge of the film member is substantially non-linear such that noise produced by air flow passing around the terminal edge of the panel is minimized.Type: GrantFiled: January 16, 1996Date of Patent: October 21, 1997Assignee: Ford Motor CompanyInventors: Hsiao-an Hsieh, Prakash T. Patent number: 5521340Abstract: An apparatus for attenuating noise produced by fluid pressure pulsations in a hydraulic system in an automotive vehicle is disclosed. The apparatus includes a muffler device comprising a generally elongate tubular member having a predetermined number of attenuating zones therein, each zone having a cross-sectional area of different size than the cross-sectional area of the tubular member. The attenuating zones are spaced at unequal lengths from one another to achieve maximized noise reduction benefits.Type: GrantFiled: April 5, 1994Date of Patent: May 28, 1996Assignee: Ford Motor CompanyInventors: Prakash T. Thawani, Chhotubhai N. Patel

Patent number: 5435699Abstract: An accumulator for an automotive air conditioning system having a mechanism for attenuating fluid pressure pulsations and resultant noise from the air conditioning compressor is disclosed. The fluid pressure pulsation attenuating mechanism includes a predetermined number of attenuating zones formed in the outlet tube of the accumulator, each zone having a cross-sectional area of different size than the cross-sectional area of the outlet tube generally.Type: GrantFiled: April 5, 1994Date of Patent: July 25, 1995Assignee: Ford Motor CompanyInventors: Prakash T. Patent number: 4595073Abstract: A plug section for a muffler, including an outer body and having an inlet pipe for introducing exhaust gas into the body. The inner end of the inlet pipe located within the body portion is closed off. Surrounding the inlet pipe is a conical baffle having a small diameter end secured to the inlet pipe to provide a tapered chamber between the inlet pipe and the conical baffle, while the space between the conical baffle and the outer body defines an outer chamber. Both the inlet pipe and the conical baffle are provided with a plurality of perforations. Exhaust gas entering the inlet pipe flows outwardly through the perforations in the inlet pipe to the tapered inner chamber and then flows through the perforations in the conical baffle to the outer chamber. The use of the perforated conical baffle provides a substantial improvement in sound attenuation, reducing both the shell noise level and the outlet noise level.Type: GrantFiled: May 14, 1984Date of Patent: June 17, 1986Assignee: Nelson Industries Inc.Inventor: Prakash T.
