  • Patent number: 8884940
Abstract: A system for driving an array of display elements includes a supply line, at least one capacitor, a plurality of drive lines and overdrive lines, a plurality of switches and a controller configured to activate and deactivate subsets of the switches in order to selectively couple the at least one capacitor to the drive lines and to the overdrive lines. A method for generating an overdrive voltage includes activating and deactivating a plurality of switches to couple a drive voltage line and/or an overdrive voltage line to at least one capacitor.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: January 6, 2010
Date of Patent: November 11, 2014
    Assignee: QUALCOMM MEMS Technologies, Inc.
Inventors: Wilhelmus Johannes Robertus Van Lier, Pramod K. Varma
  • Patent number: 8780104
Abstract: This disclosure provides systems, methods and apparatus, including computer programs encoded on computer storage media, for calibrating display arrays. In one aspect, a method of calibrating a display array includes determining a particular drive response characteristic and updating a particular drive scheme voltage between updates of image data on the display array.

    Filed: October 21, 2011
Date of Patent: July 15, 2014
    Assignee: Qualcomm MEMS Technologies, Inc.
Inventors: Nao S. Chuei, Koorosh Aflatooni, Wilhelmus Johannes Robertus Van Lier, Pramod K. Varma, Ramesh K. Goel, Sameer Venugopal
  • Publication number: 20130321380
Abstract: This disclosure provides methods and apparatus for calibrating display arrays. In one aspect, a method of calibrating a display array includes determining a particular drive response characteristic and updating a particular drive scheme voltage between updates of image data on the display array. The drive response characteristic may be determined by applying a ramped voltage to a line of the array and detecting a current pulse due to a capacitance change on the line. The drive response characteristic can be determined based on data representing a width of a current pulse in the waveform or a weighted or unweighted area of a current pulse in the waveform.

The drive response characteristic may be determined by applying a ramp voltage to a line of the array and detecting a current pulse due to a capacitance change on the line. The ramp voltage generator can include a capacitor and a digitally controlled current source.
