Patent number: 11276017Abstract: The present disclosure provides a method and system that estimates size, effort and FTE of software Managed Services Production Support (MS-PS) engagements. It provides a method and system to categorize all applications in various bundles based on multiple parameters. Further the invention provides a method and system to estimates size of each bundle at an application level based on a set of variables. Further, the invention provides a method and system for utilizing the estimated MS-PS engagement size and organizational baseline productivity information for estimating the MS-PS engagement base effort which can then be adjusted based on multiple factors to arrive at the final effort. It estimates full time equivalent (FTE) of the MS-PS engagement using the final estimated effort of the applications and additional FTE impacting parameters. The invention furthermore provides a method and system to optimize the estimated FTE for a bundle and view the overall unutilized effort.Type: GrantFiled: August 22, 2018Date of Patent: March 15, 2022Assignee: TATA CONSULTANCY SERVICES LIMITEDInventors: Pranabendu Bhattacharyya, Parag Saha, Dipanjan Ghosal, Paramita Mandal Dutta

Patent number: 10642611Abstract: The present subject matter relates to size estimation of a plurality of user stories for agile software development. The plurality of user stories associated with a software may be obtained, and a base size for each of the plurality of user stories may be computed based on at least one basic parameter. The at least one basic parameter is indicative of a parameter affecting complexity associated with execution of a user story. Subsequently, an additional size for the plurality of user stories may be ascertained, based on at least one additional parameter. The at least one additional parameter is indicative of an environmental factor affecting delivery of the software. The overall size of the plurality of user stories is determined by consolidating the base size for each user story with the additional size for the plurality of user stories.Type: GrantFiled: September 17, 2014Date of Patent: May 5, 2020Assignee: TATA CONSULTANCY SERVICES LIMITEDInventors: Pranabendu Bhattacharyya, Sharmila Das, Sayantan Roy

Patent number: 10379850Abstract: A system and a method related to software project estimation. The method receives a value corresponding to at least one decision parameter including a project type, a technology, a software development life cycle (SDLC) type and a stage of the software project from user. The received value is mapped with techniques associated with each of estimation parameters including a size parameter, an effort parameter, a cost parameter, and a schedule parameter in a decision matrix. Based on the mapping, one or more techniques for each estimation parameter are shortlisted, and a success rating factor for each shortlisted technique is evaluated based on historical data to identify a primary set of techniques. Compatibility of the primary set of techniques is then determined based on an interoperability factor to identify at least one secondary set of techniques providing optimum estimate of the software project.Type: GrantFiled: March 13, 2014Date of Patent: August 13, 2019Assignee: TATA CONSULTANCY SERVICES LIMITEDInventors: Pranabendu Bhattacharyya, Sharmila Das

Patent number: 9330365Abstract: A method and system is provided for estimating size and effort of software assurance project for distributing the estimated effort across the software assurance project phases. Particularly, the invention provides a method and system for estimating the software assurance project size based on the predefined weight ratios assigned to the test cases after classifying them into simple, medium and complex categories. Further, the invention provides a method and system for utilizing the estimated software assurance project size and organizational baseline productivity information for estimating the software assurance efforts. Further, the invention provides a method and system for distributing the estimated effort across the software assurance project phases.Type: GrantFiled: November 27, 2012Date of Patent: May 3, 2016Assignee: Tata Consultancy Services LimitedInventors: Pranabendu Bhattacharyya, Sanghamitra Ghosh Basu
