    Abstract: Methods of fracturing a subterranean formation are provided. An example method comprises introducing a treatment fluid into a wellbore penetrating a subterranean formation at a pressure sufficient to create or extend at least one fracture in the subterranean formation, wherein the treatment fluid comprises an aqueous base fluid and a hydrophobically-modified cellulose. Methods of preparing a treatment fluid are provided. An example method comprises adding solid hydrophobically-modified cellulose to an aqueous fluid comprising a total dissolved solids concentration of greater than 300,000 mg/L to produce hydrated hydrophobically-modified cellulose; and then adding at least a portion of the hydrated hydrophobically-modified cellulose to an aqueous base fluid to produce the treatment fluid.
