  • Publication number: 20140376558
Abstract: An edge switch enables service provisioning and dynamic service association for end devices coupled to the edge switch. The edge switch maintains a generic user profile that includes classification rules for classifying incoming traffic from the end devices to Virtual Local Area Network (VLAN) VLAN tunnel services. Upon detecting incoming traffic on an access port of the edge switch, the edge switch accesses the generic user profile to determine whether the incoming traffic matches one of the classification rules, and if so, automatically associates the incoming traffic with a VLAN tunnel service indicated by the matching classification rule to provide tunnel-based connectivity to remote end devices associated with the VLAN tunnel service.

  • Patent number: 8531985
Abstract: A network device includes port interfaces and a traffic buffer configured with queue sets for buffering packets transmitted or received on the port interfaces. The network device also includes a management module that stores one or more queue set profiles. The queue set profiles specify configuration parameters for buffering and managing traffic in the queue sets. To configure a queue set, one of the queue set profiles is associated with the corresponding port interface and the configuration parameters are applied to the queue set. This queue set is then configured in accordance with the queue set profile. Management of port interfaces is thus performed by applying a queue set profile to similar groups of queue sets.

  • Patent number: 7872993
Abstract: Embodiments of the invention provide a method for building a classification tree based on a plurality of rules. Each rule includes multiple fields having different priority levels. The classification tree is built to provide for single pass classification of a received packet according to the multiple rules. The classification tree is built level-by-level, where each level represents one of the priority levels. Building a single level of the classification tree includes: creating, for each of the logical decision paths received from a next higher priority level, a respective sub-tree. The sub-tree includes only nodes and related logical decision paths that are necessary to satisfy rules associated with a respective next higher priority level node. Building of the single level further includes: creating, for each non-lowest priority level, logical decision paths from nodes within the current priority level to a next lower priority level.
