  • Publication number: 20140269423
Abstract: In this invention we disclose methods of automatically configuring a wireless node when it initially powers on and seeks to integrate into an existing wireless network. The wireless node could be part of an ad hoc, software defined network. One such network could be LTE network. The auto-configuration methods disclosed herein can be executed on wireless nodes throughout their operation. In alternate embodiments, the methods disclosed could be used to create a new configuration based on changed environmental conditions, location or node capability change. These embodiments allow wireless nodes to migrate to better quality connections if they become available.

  • Publication number: 20140092765
Abstract: This application discloses methods for creating self-organizing networks implemented on heterogeneous mesh networks. The self-organizing networks can include a computing cloud component coupled to the heterogeneous mesh network. In the methods and computer-readable mediums disclosed herein, a processor receives an environmental condition for a mesh network. The processor may have measured the environmental condition, or it could have received it from elsewhere, e.g., internally stored information, a neighboring node, a server located in a computing cloud, a network element, user equipment (“UE”), and the like. After receiving the environmental condition, the processor evaluates it and determines whether an operational parameter within the mesh network should change to better optimize network performance.

  • Publication number: 20130343309
Abstract: A method is provided that includes receiving, at a serving gateway, an uplink data packet from a UE and caching information regarding the uplink packet on a per UE basis. The method also includes receiving a downlink packet destined for the UE when the serving gateway is unaware of any bearer connection being established for sending the packet to the UE. The method further includes determining whether the downlink packet is in response to an uplink data packet recently sent by the UE prior to receiving from an MME a notification at the serving gateway that a bearer connection is established for the UE to receive the downlink packet. The method also includes buffering the downlink packet until a bearer connection is established when the downlink packet is determined to be in response to an uplink packet.

  • Patent number: 8537829
Abstract: This disclosure relates to a system and method for providing a mechanism control page requests sent in a wireless communication network. The paging control mechanism can be implemented in a gateway through a combination of hardware and software to determine whether packets received at a gateway trigger a page. The packets received at the gateway are intended for user equipment that is indicated to be in an idle state with no bearer connection. The paging mechanism controls paging when paging requests need to be sent. In some communication networks, page requests can be sent that are not needed because a bearer connection or link is in the process of being established. The control can be asserted by adding intelligence to the gateway to determine—on receipt of downlink data or signaling—how to proceed based on the state of the user equipment and the bearer connection.

  • Publication number: 20070277047
Abstract: An information handling system (IHS) is provided which includes a system processor and a wireless section coupled to the system processor. While the system processor remains in a reduced power state, the wireless section is operable to be powered up to detect the presence of a wireless network external to the IHS and determine if that detected wireless network matches a network included in profile information stored in a memory that is accessible by the wireless section. An indicator is coupled to the wireless section and is operable to provide an indication that a wireless network is present.

  • Publication number: 20070206527
Abstract: A technique is disclosed for setting up and configuring a LAN. More particularly, secure communications may be configured between an access point (AP) and a client device. Virtual AP technology is utilized to assist the configuration of the network. In particular, at least two wireless networks are provided in a single A, a configuration LAN and an operational LAN, by utilizing virtual AP technology. The configuration LAN is utilized to provide communication between the AP and the client devices that is related to network setup, configuration, modification, etc. and the operational LAN provides normal LAN data communication. The configuration LAN may be provided in a relatively insecure manner that eases setup of that communication channel and the operational LAN may be provided in a more fully secure communication channel. Different types of service set identifiers (SSIDs) may be provided for configuration LANs and operational LANs so as to more easily identify the type of LAN through its SSID.

  • Publication number: 20070202805
Abstract: A split architecture wireless access point (SAAP) extends a traditional wireless access point (TRAP) network by selectively interfacing or isolating a SAAP network with a deployed TRAP of the TRAP wireless network. The SAAP has a split architecture that interfaces with the TRAP as a client of the TRAP network and supports the SAAP network as a router. For instance, a client module communicates as a client of the TRAP wireless network over a TRAP channel and a router module routes information between clients of the SAAP network over a SAAP channel, the SAAP wireless network to advantageously benefit streaming of audiovisual information and other usages of the TRAP and SAAP wireless networks. A control module selectively allows communication between the router and client modules to support communication between information handling systems associated with the SAAP wireless network and the TRAP wireless network.

  • Publication number: 20070180106
Abstract: An improved system and method for predicting streaming media performance through the use of real-time wireless network performance measurements and statistical analysis, combined with a generalized methodology for comparing digital media quality before and after transmission. Network performance parameters of a benchmark media stream, such as throughput and signal strength, are measured for predetermined wireless network ranges and correlated to the introduction of various artifacts such as but not limited to, blurring, blockiness, and jerkiness, affecting streaming video quality. In various embodiments of the invention, network throughput and signal strength measurements of a received media stream can be processed by an algorithm and correlated to previously collected benchmark measurements to predict the resulting audio and video quality as experienced by a user.

  • Publication number: 20070174131
Abstract: Information handling systems are built to order with provisioned wireless wide area network (WWAN) service coordinated through a WWAN network provider as part of the manufacture of the information handling system. A WWAN component is built into the information handling system and then queried to retrieve a WWAN identifier, such as ESM or SIM information. The identifier is associated with end user information of the information handling system and formatted as a request for WWAN provisioning sent to a network service provider. The network service provider applies the WWAN identifier and end user information to contact the end user for setting up a WWAN account or, alternatively, to automatically set up a WWAN account for the end user.

  • Publication number: 20070146804
Abstract: Facsimile documents are communicated between a facsimile machine and a telephone network through an information handling system local area network to provide improved flexibility with the usage and positioning of the facsimile machine with minimal impact on the usage model. A facsimile module associated with the local area network and located distal the facsimile machine converts digital documents provided from the facsimile machine through the local area network into formats for transmission on the telephone network, such as an analog modem signal, TDM packets representing an analog modem signal or VoIP/FoIP packets representing an analog modem signal.
