Abstract: A device may include a controller and a modem of a first wireless network. The controller may determine that the modem is in active mode and the device is using a second wireless network for communication instead of the first wireless network. In response to the determining, the controller may switch the modem into power-save mode. In response to a handover triggering event, the controller may switch the modem to the active mode and acquire a service of the first wireless network without registering with the first wireless network. The controller may determine that a communication service is to be handed over to the service of the first wireless network. In response to determining that the communication service is to be handed over, the controller may perform registration with the first wireless network, and perform handover of the communication service to the service of the first wireless network.

Abstract: A processing device receives network data from a plurality of user devices. The network data identifies networks available to provide roaming service to at least one of the plurality of user devices at one or more geographical locations. The processing device generates at least one list of identifiers of preferred networks for at least one of the geographical locations based on the network data. The processing device sends the list of identifiers to the plurality of user devices.

Abstract: Methods and systems for optimizing voice call setup times for user devices. A user device that is registered to a packet switched network and in an idle state receives a command to establish a voice call. The user device selects a legacy cell of a circuit switched network. The user device then establishes a radio connection with the selected legacy cell without first establishing a radio connection with a serving cell of the packet switched network.

Abstract: Approaches enable a service such a network optimization service of a computing device (e.g., a mobile phone, table computer, etc.) or other electronic device to monitor certain conditions of the device, such as device location, to determine a region in which the device is operating in. The device location can be used to determine a region in which the device is operating, and based at least on that region, a group of frequencies (e.g., a band group) including at least a subset of band frequencies and technologies that the device supports can be determined. The device can then search bands/technologies from the band group to determine a network provider (e.g., a public land mobile network (PLMN)) from which to gain telecommunication service access.
