Patent number: 9678194Abstract: Disclosed are implementations that include a method, performed by a network control device, including sending a first instruction to a first device to send a first measurement signal, and sending a second instruction to a second device to receive the first measurement signal. Following receipt of a first acknowledgement signal from the target mobile device, the first and second devices change their roles so the second device sends, and the first device receives, a second measurement signal, and the first and second devices receive a second acknowledgement signal from the target device. Position of the target device is determined based on timing measurements associated with the first and second measurement signals, the first and second acknowledgement signals, and on known positions of the first and second devices. Another network device is selected to perform additional measurements upon a determination that a desired accuracy of the position determined was not achieved.Type: GrantFiled: April 16, 2015Date of Patent: June 13, 2017Assignee: QUALCOMM IncorporatedInventors: Praveen Dua, Lionel Jacques Garin

Patent number: 9480043Abstract: Disclosed is a system, apparatus, computer readable storage medium, and method to perform a bandwidth efficient network based positioning (NBP). A positioning request for a mobile device is received within an environment, the environment comprising one or more access points (APs). An AP coverage area including the mobile device is determined. A NBP load for the AP is measured, wherein the NBP load comprises a direct NBP load and an indirect NBP load. If the NBP load is less than a threshold, the AP is instructed to process the first positioning request. Multiple APs may process positioning requests concurrently and positioning requests may be scheduled according to timeout and/or relative expiration.Type: GrantFiled: April 25, 2014Date of Patent: October 25, 2016Inventors: Meghna Agrawal, Praveen Dua

Patent number: 9451418Abstract: Systems, methods, and devices enable group associations based on network determined location information. The various embodiments enable the ad-hoc creation of mobile device groups based on network determined locations. In an embodiment, a server may determine the location of a mobile device and based on the mobile device being located in a pairing zone may add the mobile device to a group. In an embodiment, the server may add the mobile device to the group following the occurrence of a trigger event, such as the mobile device pausing in a given pairing zone for a period of time. In an embodiment, the server may identify that mobile devices are located within a pairing zone and may add all the mobile devices in the pairing zone to the same group.Type: GrantFiled: March 14, 2013Date of Patent: September 20, 2016Assignee: QUALCOMM IncorporatedInventors: George Joseph, Peter S Marx, Eric P Bilange, Leyla S Celebi, Gaurav Lamba, Cormac S Conroy, Praveen Dua, Jayal M Mehta

Publication number: 20160192147Abstract: Methods, systems, computer-readable media, and apparatuses are presented for excluding peer-to-peer mobile device signal data from a heat map. In response to receiving an identifier of a mobile device in a peer-to-peer network group, a server may generate resultant data by excluding data associated with a signal generated by the mobile device from data used to generate a heat map. The server can generate the heat map using the resultant data.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 24, 2015Publication date: June 30, 2016Inventors: Subash MARRI SRIDHAR, Sai Pradeep VENKATRAMAN, Praveen DUA

Publication number: 20160192151Abstract: Methods, systems, computer-readable media, and apparatuses are presented for determining positions of mobile devices in a peer-to-peer network group. In some embodiments, a server receives information regarding a distance between a group owner mobile device and a client mobile device in a peer-to-peer network group. The server determines whether the distance between the group owner mobile device and the client mobile device exceeds a threshold distance. If the threshold distance is not exceeded, the server associates a position of the group owner mobile device with a position of the client mobile device.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 24, 2015Publication date: June 30, 2016Inventors: Subash MARRI SRIDHAR, Sai Pradeep VENKATRAMAN, Praveen DUA

Publication number: 20160183113Abstract: Mobile devices implement a ranging mechanism that includes a lead responder receiving ranging measurement requests from two different initiators in the same DW cycle. At the beginning of the DW cycle the lead responder broadcasts and/or publishes a channel availability map that includes a list of slots and channels in which to respond to the ranging measurement requests based on a number of ranging operations supported in each slot within the DW cycle and based on an autonomously determined response sequence. If the lead responder responds to all ranging requests by all initiators in a DW cycle, secondary responders can perform ranging in the same or subsequent DW cycles. Upon exhausting all initiators paired with the lead responder, a secondary responder becomes the “active” responder that is chosen based on a prioritization scheme that is universal among the group of devices in the ranging operation.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 23, 2014Publication date: June 23, 2016Inventors: Praveen DUA, Zhifeng CAI, Meghna AGRAWAL, Andrew Mackinnon DAVIDSON, Samir KAPOOR, Amod BODAS

Publication number: 20160150500Abstract: Methods and apparatuses are disclosed that may perform simultaneous ranging operations between a requester device and each of a plurality of target devices using OFDMA-based frame exchanges while maintaining a level of accuracy comparable to ranging operations that do not use OFDMA-based frame exchanges. Tone interleaving may be used so that the ranging devices may estimate channel conditions for the full frequency spectrum of the wireless medium. For example, a unique set of two or more non-adjacent groups of OFDM sub-carrier frequencies may be allocated to each of the plurality of target devices for ranging operations.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 12, 2015Publication date: May 26, 2016Inventors: Meghna Agrawal, Ning Zhang, Xiaoxin Zhang, Youhan Kim, Praveen Dua, Carlos Horacio Aldana

Patent number: 9065594Abstract: Bluetooth file transfers using FTP do not provide upper-layer reliability checking and rely on the Bluetooth device physical layer providing reliable data to upper layers of a Bluetooth stack. However, reliability checks implemented by the physical layer are typically not very robust and in some cases may fail to detect errors, thus may provide corrupted data to the upper layers for further processing and may result in data corruption/transfer failure. Non-FTP Bluetooth file transfers are typically more robust when it comes to reliability checking because of upper layer reliability checks. Functionality can be implemented to vary packet transmission parameters depending on a Bluetooth profile implemented on a communication link. A packet error rate of received packets can be compared against a different set of thresholds depending on whether the Bluetooth profile is an FTP profile. Appropriate values of packet transmission parameters can be selected based on the above comparison.Type: GrantFiled: March 9, 2010Date of Patent: June 23, 2015Assignee: QUALCOMM IncorporatedInventors: Paul J.
