Abstract: Streaming content protocols typically provide playlists, a file that lists the location of each segment of a content stream. The playlist may change as the content server adds content to the content stream or because the length of the content stream continues to grow. Client devices periodically fetch the playlist, and are unaware whether the playlist has changed, and thus may needlessly use bandwidth repeatedly fetching the same playlist. Throttling content download o provides systems and methods for controlling the download of streaming content-related data according to the current status of the playlist and possibly also current bandwidth availability. Content server, by monitoring client device related playlist position and client device content buffer can regulate content streaming, to improve network bandwidth distribution. A content server determines whether the playlist has changed since the last time the playlist was requested and denies a request for the playlist when the playlist has not changed.

The STB downloads and configures an extender service agent for implementing extender capability at the STB. pairing the extender service agent with a router, and providing extended wireless IP connectivity using a fronthaul connection via the antenna to clients in range of IP signals radiated by the antenna. When the STB uses a wired backhaul connection all of an available bandwidth is used for the fronthaul connection, and when a wireless backhaul connection is used, the available bandwidth is split between the backhaul connection and the fronthaul connection.

The method includes connecting, to a synchronization service, a plurality of media consumption devices; receiving, on the synchronization service, a control request from one or more of the plurality of media consumption devices; and sending, from the synchronization service, a control signal to each of the plurality of media consumption devices to implement a playback control to synchronize a playback of the video content in each of the plurality of media consumption devices.

Based upon a comparison between wireless quality parameters currently observed by a wireless device and wireless quality parameters of a viewable area map, a determination may be made that the wireless device is within the viewable area of a media device, and the wireless device may be configured as a control device for the media device.

This accomplishment is achieved by avoiding pre buffer time using parallel transcode sessions and enabling a fast response to network congestion, as desired bitrate chunks/segments are readily available. The client, for example the HLS client, is not aware of switching the bitrate and is not taxed with any demands, as only the HLS server needs to manage synchronization of any pre-transcoded content and continue with further transcoding of the content.

When the subscriber device receives a request for multimedia content, the subscriber device can identify one or more media attributes preferred by the subscriber, and media renditions of the multimedia content having an identified preferred media attribute can be downloaded to the subscriber device.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and computer readable media may be operable to facilitate the output of an alert to a client device informing a user of a potential disruption to a data transfer at a client device. An access point may monitor the data rate of a data transfer session with a station, determine a minimum data transfer rate threshold for the data transfer session, and output an alert to the station when the data rate of the transfer session drops below the minimum data transfer rate threshold. The reduced data rate may be caused by a movement of the station away from the access point, and the alert may provide a user with an indication of the reduced data rate. In embodiments, the alert may provide the user with instructions or recommendations for remedying or preventing an interruption to the transfer session.

The methods, systems, and apparatuses described herein enable the identification and retrieval of one or more preferred or requested media renditions of multimedia content. A subscriber device can maintain a list of media attributes preferred by the subscriber device and/or one or more users with access to the subscriber device, wherein the list includes preferred media attributes in order from the most requested/received attribute to the least requested/received attribute. When the subscriber device receives a request for multimedia content, the subscriber device can identify one or more media attributes preferred by the subscriber, and media renditions of the multimedia content having an identified preferred media attribute can be downloaded to the subscriber device.

Abstract: Methods of adding an inline reply to a video email/message and presenting a chain of video emails/messages are provided. A video email/message is received and an inline reply to the video email/message is generated and associated with a point during playback of the video email/message. The inline reply is sent by return email such that, during subsequent playback of the video email/message, playback of the video email/message is paused at the point and the inline reply is displayed.
