Abstract: An access point that selectively provides an unsolicited broadcast probe response in a second band of frequencies (such as the 6 GHz band of frequencies) is described. During operation, the access point may receive information that indicates the electronic device is operating in a first band of frequencies (such as the 2.4 GHz and/or the 5 GHz bands of frequencies), and that the electronic device is within wireless-communication range of the access point. This information may include an identifier of the electronic device (such as a media access control address of the electronic device). Then, the access point may selectively provide, addressed to the electronic device, the unsolicited broadcast probe response in the second band of frequencies based at least in part on the information. Note that the unsolicited broadcast probe response may be provided during a time interval (such as the TBTT) and for a time duration.
