  • Patent number: 8948136
Abstract: A method of allocating resources in a communication system and a station for the communication system is disclosed. The communication system is such that a plurality of user equipment can communicate data on a dedicated channel. In the method a request for communication resources may be sent from a user equipment to the station on a first protocol layer. Priority information is obtained at the station from a data flow on a second protocol layer. Communication resources may then at least partially be allocated based on said priority information.

  • Patent number: 8068513
Abstract: The specification and drawings present a new method, system, apparatus and software product for determining (e.g., calculating) a load measure by a network element (e.g., Node B or any other network element) for optimizing information traffic in communication networks (e.g., wireless communication systems). This load measure may represent the amount of available/excess traffic that a given network element may carry and is a relative measure, which would take into account the total amount of resources available in the system and the amount of resources that are free for carrying only “important” or “essential” traffic, using a weighed method described herein.

  • Patent number: 7489691
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method and system for scheduling data packets in a base station device of an access network. An information indicating a retransmission status of a data packet is provided to the base station device, and a scheduling priority is allocated to the data packet based on the retransmission status information. Thereby, retransmission packets can be scheduled earlier and round trip times can be reduced, so as to decrease the risk of timeouts and stalling and to loosen buffer requirements.

  • Publication number: 20080259802
Abstract: Methods, apparatus and computer program products implement frequency domain packet scheduling in a fractional load situation by detecting a fractional load situation in a wireless communications network; receiving information indicative of signal conditions in a cell; using the information indicative of signal conditions in the cell to determine physical resource blocks in use in a nearby cell; determining how many physical resource blocks are need to perform packet transmission operations in dependence on packet traffic in the cell; selecting particular physical resource blocks to be used to perform initial packet transmission operations in the cell downlink so as to avoid those physical resource blocks in use in the nearby cell; and when selecting physical resource blocks to perform future packet transmission operations in the cell downlink, favoring those physical resource blocks used to perform initial packet transmission operations.

  • Patent number: 7369521
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method and a device for controlling power in a network transmitted from a first station to a second station. The second station determines a power target value for a signal received from the first station and sends power control commands to the first station depending on a deviation between said power target value and a received power level. The second station detects faulty data blocks received from the first station and requests retransmission of faulty data blocks from the first station. The adjustment of the power target value to a temporary power target value during the retransmission is performed such that the temporary power target value is calculated depending on the quality of a faulty data block.

  • Publication number: 20080095133
Abstract: The application discloses a method for avoiding inter-cell interference in a cellular communications system. In the method, a user terminal (UE2) measures (6-3) control signalling (6-2) of a first, serving base station (BS3) and control signalling (6-1) of a second base station (BS2), the user terminal (UE2) being within the coverage area of the serving base station (BS3) and the coverage area of the second base station (BS2). Based on the measuring, the user terminal calculates (6-4) a timing difference between the signalling from the serving base station (BS3) and the signalling from the second base station (BS2). Information on the timing difference is provided (6-5) to the serving base station (BS3). Based on the timing difference, the serving base station (BS3) schedules (6-6) data transmission (6-7) to be transmitted to the user terminal (UE2) non-simultaneously with the control signalling (6-1) from the second base station (BS2).

  • Publication number: 20070189289
Abstract: A method is provided for applying frequency domain multiplexing of unicast and multicast services on a single carrier, such that both services can operate at the same time, and may be received with the same RF front end and A/D converter. In order to reduce subcarrier interference between unicast and multicast tones a guardband is introduced between the unicast and multicast bands, where the guardband can be fixed or variable within a sub-frame. • Publication number: 20070147487
Abstract: Disclosed herein are apparatus, methods and computer program products for transmitting signals in different frequency sub-bands used in a particular cell of a cellular wireless communications system in accordance with a power sequence and for selecting modulation schemes to be used in transmitting the signals in the different frequency sub-bands in dependence on signal transmission power allocated to the sub-bands in the power sequence. In the power sequence, signals to be transmitted in at least one sub-band are allocated a higher signal transmission power level than signals to be transmitted in other sub-bands used in the particular cell of the cellular wireless communication system. The differing signal transmission power levels allocated to the different sub-bands typically results in different SINR for signals transmitted at the higher signal transmission power levels and signal transmitted at the lower signal transmission power levels.
