    Abstract: A balanced spectrum limiter for limiting the frequency spectrum of signals transmitted through a telephone or communication system includes one or more filters and an energy surge protection circuit. Each filter includes a pair of inductors wound around a single core and a capacitor connected between the two inductors. The energy surge protection circuit can be any type of energy surge protection circuit known in the art. The range of frequencies which can be transmitted is determined by the filter. The filter is removably connected to the energy surge protection circuit so that filters of varying parameters may be easily interchanged.

  • Coaxial surge protector having thermal fail-safe shunt

    Abstract: A coaxial surge protector includes a housing in which is situated a transmission line in the form of a two-sided printed circuit board. The surge protector includes input and output signal connectors mounted on a housing and connected to the transmission line, and a gas discharge tube electrically coupled between the transmission line and circuit ground. A thermally activated shunt assembly is thermally coupled to the gas discharge tube and senses when the gas discharge tube is in an overheating condition. Upon such condition, the shunt assembly provides an electrically conductive shunt in parallel with the gas discharge tube to divert current flowing through the gas discharge tube to flow through the shunt assembly to ground in order to minimize further overheating of the gas discharge tube.

  • Communication filter for unshielded, twisted-pair cable

    Abstract: An electrical data filter is provided for reducing noise reception and generation for data signal which is transmitted differentially on two conductors constituting the twisted-pair cable. The data filter includes an in-line transformer and a shunt transformer. The in-line transformer has a winding (i.e. the primary or secondary) in series with each line of the twisted pair. These windings are arranged so that they are wound in the same direction. Similarly, the shunt transformer includes a winding which shunts each wire of the twisted pair to ground through a series capacitor. These shunt windings are wound in opposite directions to each other.
