  • Publication number: 20070081592
Abstract: Additional data compression is achieved by enhancing the spatial and temporal correlation of the data in a pre-processing module prior to sending the data to an encoding algorithm, such as for example, the MPEG algorithm. An input frame of data is decomposed into a luminance frame and two chrominance frames. The luminance frame is transformed on the basis of each of a plurality of luminance pixels within the frame to produce a transformed luminance frame having a plurality of transformed luminance pixels. A map describing a relationship between the plurality of luminance pixels of the luminance frame and the plurality of transformed luminance pixels of the transformed luminance frame is created. The two chrominance frames are transformed according to the map to produce two transformed chrominance frames. The transformed luminance frame and the two transformed chrominance frames are integrated to produce a transformed output frame.

  • Publication number: 20070041706
Abstract: User-defined parameters and/or default parameters are used to detect the presence of potential highlights within a recorded version of a full-length broadcast program, according to one embodiment. Locations within the recorded program which satisfy any of the user or default parameters may then be added to a highlight list, which is usable to generate a highlight program. In one embodiment, video packets, audio packets and closed-caption packets are parceled out from the video stream and analyzed separately. For each of the types of packets analyzed, the locations and descriptions of potential highlights may be tabulated. This tabulated data may then be correlated and consolidated into a single highlight list which is usable to access the various identified highlights from the recorded full-length broadcast program, and to present them in sequence on a display device.

  • Patent number: 7093274
Abstract: A home video server system includes a source control library and a streaming library. A stream controller is connected between the source control library and the streaming library. Moreover, a plurality of network display terminals can be connected to the streaming library via a network connection. The source control library can choose between a plurality of media sources for streaming video content. When the sources for the streaming video content change, the connection between the network display terminal and the streaming library remains the same.

  • Publication number: 20060050970
Abstract: A method and apparatus for transmitting a digitally encoded video image in real time via a data network wherein the video image is digitally encoded using a compression algorithm having a variable bit rate, e.g., JPEG2K, to provide an encoded data stream, the encoded data stream is fed into a buffer of known size, and the data is read from the buffer via a streamer with a controllable bit rate to provide a bit stream at a desired stream bit rate for transmission via the network. The bit rate of the encoded data stream from the encoder is monitored by a predictor and predicts a future bit rate of the encoded data stream; and, the bit rate of at least one of the encoder and the streamer is adjusted to provide the desired streaming bit rate.

  • Publication number: 20060001737
Abstract: A videoconferencing method consistent with certain embodiments involves receiving a video stream via a broadband network connection at a television display to display a remote party's inbound video information. A video stream is transmitted via a wireless cellular telephone's camera to the remote party to provide outbound video information. Inbound audio is received from the remote party via the broadband network connection at the television display and playing the audio using the television display's audio circuits. Outbound audio is transmitted to the remote party via the wireless cellular telephone's audio circuits. This abstract is not to be considered limiting, since other embodiments may deviate from the features described in this abstract.

  • Publication number: 20050134728
Abstract: An apparatus comprising a plurality of columns bound together, configured to display a single row of pixels scanned out from top to bottom. It also comprises a timing control unit to synchronize between the columns to allow all pixels of a single row to be lit at the same time.
