Patent number: 11573617Abstract: Systems and components are provided for charging an Information Handling System (IHS). Systems include an AC adapter configured to report attributes of the adapter. The adapter includes a DC cord that supports a data channel. The DC plug includes a circuit for operating an indicator light based on an control signal. The system includes a power port controller that receives the reported adapter attributes, determines a charging state of the IHS; generates the control signal based on the determined charging state; and transmits the control signal to the indictor light circuit via the data channel. The indicator control signal may be used to operate indicator lights on both ends of a reversible DC cord. The indicator control signal may specify a color or brightness of the indicator and may indicate a charging state of the IHS.Type: GrantFiled: January 25, 2019Date of Patent: February 7, 2023Assignee: Dell Products, L.P.Inventors: Andrew Thomas Sultenfuss, Priyank Jatin Gajiwala

Patent number: 10996276Abstract: An AC adapter charges an Information Handling System (IHS) and includes a first DC plug including a DC connector that is compatible with an IHS power port. The first DC plug includes a first light guide for receiving light transmitted from the IHS and for illuminating an indicator of the first DC plug. The first DC plug comprises a fiber optic wire that receives the light received by the first light guide and illuminates the indicator. The fiber optic wire may extend within the DC cord and may illuminate an indicator of a second DC plug on the opposite end of the cord. The DC cord may include indicators illuminated by the fiber optic wire extending within the cord. The fiber optic wire terminates at a light guide of the second DC plug and exits the light guide of the second DC plug when the second DC plug is uncoupled.Type: GrantFiled: January 25, 2019Date of Patent: May 4, 2021Assignee: Dell Products, L.P.Inventors: Andrew Thomas Sultenfuss, Priyank Jatin Gajiwala

Patent number: 10770854Abstract: Methods of assembly are provided for an AC plug supporting foldable prongs. The AC plug includes: a cover including slots and prongs. In an extended position, the prongs are insertable in AC outlet receptacles and each prong contacts a spring mounted terminal that is coupled to a power circuit. In a retracted position, each prong is recessed in a slot of the cover and does not contact a spring mounted terminal. In the extended position, the coupling between each prong and the power circuit does not utilize wires. A first end of each spring mounted terminal is positioned on a contact pad of a printed circuit board (PCB) that connects the AC plug to the power circuit. A cap is fastened to the cover and secures the spring mounted terminals to the respective contact pads and secures the PCB and spring mounted terminal to the cover.Type: GrantFiled: January 25, 2019Date of Patent: September 8, 2020Assignee: Dell Products, L.P.Inventors: Andrew Thomas Sultenfuss, Priyank Jatin Gajiwala
