Publication number: 20040020965Abstract: A fastener driving device includes a housing containing a chamber for storing compressed air a cylinder structure disposed within the housing, a piston movably disposed within the cylinder, a driver connected to the piston, a main valve cooperable with the cylinder structure and movable between an open position and a closed position. The main valve in its open position allows air to move the piston through a drive stroke. The fastener driving device also includes a trigger valve operable between first and second positions. The trigger valve in its first position communicates air pressure from the chamber to the main valve through a signal passageway so as to retain the main valve in a closed position. The trigger valve in its second position allows the air to be exhausted to atmosphere through the signal passageway to permit the main valve to open. The cylinder and the signal passageway comprise an integrally molded structure.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 4, 2003Publication date: February 5, 2004Applicant: STANLEY FASTENING SYSTEMS, L.P.Inventors: Brian C. Publication number: 20030222113Abstract: A fastener driving device comprises a housing having a chamber constructed and arranged to contain compressed air, a cylinder disposed within the housing, a piston disposed within the cylinder and movable between upper and lower positions within the cylinder, a fastener striker connected with the piston, a main valve and trigger valve. The main valve is formed from a resilient material having a first portion thereof sealingly engaged with a first portion of the cylinder. The main valve has a second portion thereof movable between a sealing position with a second portion of the cylinder and an unsealed position as a result of flexing of the resilient material. The unsealed position permitting the compressed air to force the piston to move from the upper position to the lower position to enable the fastener striker to move through a fastener driving stroke. The trigger valve is carried by the housing.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 4, 2003Publication date: December 4, 2003Applicant: STANLEY FASTENING SYSTEMS, L.P.Inventors: Brian C. Burke, Prudencio S. Patent number: 6431429Abstract: A fastener driving device includes a frame structure providing a handle portion and an adjustable annular exhaust air directing member mounted on the frame structure. The exhaust air directing member allows air displaced during the operation of the device to be directed by a rotational position thereof. A pair of O-rings are provided which act between the exhaust air directing member and the frame structure (1) to ensure that air is discharged into the atmosphere in a direction determined by the rotational position of the exhaust air directing member and (2) to yieldingly retain the exhaust air directing member in any rotational position into which it is manually moved. The frame structure includes a cylinder housing portion integral with the handle portion. A cap member is bolted in sealing relation to the cylinder housing portion and the exhaust air directing member is rotatably mounted to the cap member.Type: GrantFiled: June 23, 2000Date of Patent: August 13, 2002Assignee: Stanley Fastening Systems, LPInventors: Prudencio S. Canlas, Zheng Fang

Patent number: 6371348Abstract: A fastener driving device including a sequential activating arrangement in which an enabling member has one end pivotally connected to a trigger member, an opposite end operatively associated with an upper end of an upper structure of a work contact assembly and a central portion disposed below a lower end of an actuating member. When the enabling member and trigger member are in the inoperative limiting positions, thereof movement of the upper structure from the inoperative position thereof into the operative position thereof will move the opposite end of said enabling member through a first arcuate path into a first position. When in the first position, the enabling member is moved into a second position in response to the manual movement of the trigger member into the operative limiting position thereof during which the actuating member is moved into the operative position thereof.Type: GrantFiled: June 23, 2000Date of Patent: April 16, 2002Assignee: Stanley Fastening Systems, LPInventors: Prudencio S. Canlas, Donald R. Perron

Patent number: 6186386Abstract: A fastener driving device including a fastener depth adjusting assembly comprising a rotary adjusting member having an internal threaded section extending along an axis threadedly mounted on one of an upper and lower structures of a work contact assembly so that a rotational movement of the adjusting member with respect to the one structure effects a relative axial movement therebetween. Mounting structure is provided between another of the upper and lower structures and the adjusting member to mount the adjusting member on the another structure so as to be freely rotatable about the axis while being restrained against axial movement with respect thereto. The mounting structure positions the adjusting member so as to present an exterior surface in an accessible exterior position on a frame structure of the device. The exterior surface has a shape facilitating manual rotational movement of the adjusting member by a manual rolling action thereof.Type: GrantFiled: June 23, 2000Date of Patent: February 13, 2001Assignee: Stanley Fastening Systems, LPInventors: Prudencio S.
