Patent number: 8172119Abstract: Embodiments described herein relate to a stapler that is constructed in a manner such that the handle of the stapler remains at least substantially parallel to the base as the handle is moved downward by a user to actuate a stapling operation. One illustrative embodiment is directed to a stapler movable between a rest position and a staple ejection position that comprises a base, a stapler body, a handle, and a linkage assembly coupled to each of the base and the handle. The stapler body comprises a strike plate, a magazine, and at least one engagement surface coupled to the strike plate. The handle is operable to actuate the strike plate. The linkage assembly comprises at least one linkage member having at least one actuation surface configured to exert a force on the at least one engagement surface as the at least one actuation surface moves along the at least one engagement surface.Type: GrantFiled: November 4, 2008Date of Patent: May 8, 2012Assignee: Staples The Office Superstore, LLCInventors: Jonathan Newman Cedar, Przemyslaw Godycki

Publication number: 20100107421Abstract: Described embodiments relate to a convertible cutting instrument with improved safety. In particular, some embodiments relate to a convertible cutting instrument that may be safely handled while blades of the cutting instrument are in a closed position, with no exposed cutting edges. Some further embodiments relate to a convertible cutting instrument that comprises only two cutting edges, both of which are inwardly-facing when the cutting instrument is in a dual-blade configuration. This may render the cutting instrument safer for use as a pair of scissors or shears. A conversion mechanism may be used to convert an inwardly-facing cutting edge into an outwardly facing cutting edge, so that the cutting instrument may be used as a knife.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 4, 2008Publication date: May 6, 2010Applicant: Staples The Office Superstore, LLCInventors: Jonathan Newman Cedar, Przemyslaw Godycki

Publication number: 20040056517Abstract: A portable folding chair features a seat and a back that are joined in a hinged or pivoting fashion. A pair of front legs and a pair of rear legs are pivotally attached to the bottom of the seat. A track featuring elongated slots is also attached to the bottom of the seat. Front and rear leg braces are pivotally attached to the front and rear legs, respectively. The leg braces slide within the elongated slots of the track. The track is equipped with locking mechanisms so that the leg braces may be locked in the track with the legs in the open position. The back of the chair is equipped with a tab portion that forms a handle and extends down below the seat and engages a pair of angle bars that are included in the rear leg brace so that the back of the chair is secured in an open position. The legs may be folded against the bottom of the seat and the back rotated so that the legs and track are enclosed between the seat and back in a clamshell fashion.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 20, 2002Publication date: March 25, 2004Inventors: Sam Farber, Clay Burns, Scott Henderson, Przemyslaw Godycki Poland, Kenneth Ling
