  • Patent number: 11197230
Abstract: Methods, systems, and storage media are provided for user equipment (UE) that supports enhanced coverage and may operate with a voice centric usage setting or a data centric usage setting. When the UE's usage setting is set to voice centric, the UE may not operate in coverage enhancement (CE) mode B. When the UE's usage setting is set to data centric, then the UE may operate in CE mode B. The UE may indicate the UE's usage setting in an Attach or Tracking Area Update (TAU) request message, and a mobility management entity (MME) may indicate to an evolved NodeB that CE mode B is restricted or not restricted based on the usage setting. Other embodiments may be described and/or claimed.

  • Patent number: 11190989
Abstract: A Next Generation Node-B (gNB) and methods of communication are generally described herein. The gNB is configurable to operate as a source gNB. The gNB is configured with logical nodes including a gNB central unit (gNB-CU) and a gNB distributed unit (gNB-DU). The gNB-CU comprises a gNB-CU control plane (gNB-CU-CP) for control-plane functionality, and a gNB-CU user plane (gNB-CU-UP) for user-plane functionality. When a handover of a User Equipment (UE) from the source gNB to a target gNB is performed, the gNB transfers, from the gNB-DU to the gNB-CU-UP, a downlink data delivery status (DDDS) message to indicate that the gNB-CU-UP is to stop transfer, to the gNB-DU, of downlink data intended for the UE.

  • Publication number: 20210345226
Abstract: In one embodiment, an apparatus of a User Equipment (UE) device includes memory storing non-public network (NPN) configuration information, a radio frequency (RF) interface, and processing circuitry coupled to the memory and the RF interface. The RF interface receives information broadcast by a radio access network (RAN) node of the particular NPN, where the information includes a NPN indicator indicating that the RAN node supports a NPN and NPN service information indicating services supported by the particular NPN. The processing circuitry establishes, in response to detecting the NPN indicator in the information received from the RAN node, a connection to the particular NPN based on the NPN configuration information and the NPN service information received from the RAN node.

  • Publication number: 20210337458
Abstract: The techniques, described herein, may enable a wireless telecommunication network to manage Mobility Management Entity (MME) overload scenarios by causing a Radio Access Network (RAN) node to temporarily bar certain User Equipment (UEs) from connecting to the RAN node. In some embodiments, UEs may be barred from connecting to the RAN node based on which UEs are operating in an enhanced coverage mode, Coverage Enhancement (CE) levels of each UE, and/or a measured Reference Signal Received Power (RSRP) of each UE.

  • Patent number: 11160137
Abstract: Systems and methods provide solutions for reliable data transfer in a mobile communication network. A user equipment (UE) may indicate to the mobile communication network a capability of the UE to support a reliable data service protocol. The UE may process non-access stratum (NAS) messages, for both mobile originated (MO) data transfer and mobile terminated (MT) data transfer, using the reliable data service protocol to determine whether protocol data units (PDUs) of the NAS messages require no acknowledgement, require acknowledgment, or include an acknowledgement, and to detect and eliminate duplicate PDUs received at the UE in the NAS messages.

  • Patent number: 11122499
Abstract: Diameter based interfaces are configured to enable restriction of a coverage enhancement feature or mode. A service capability exposure function (SCEF) communicates through a Diameter based interface (e.g., S6t interface) with an HSS to control whether a user equipment (UE) is restricted from operation in an enhanced coverage mode. The SCEF may process an enhanced coverage request. In response, the SCEF generates a configuration information request (CIR) for a home subscriber server (HSS). The CIR may include an AVP to query enhanced coverage restrictions for the UE. The SCEF may also process a configuration information answer (CIA) from the HSS. The CIA may include an enhanced-coverage-restriction-data AVP indicating current settings of the enhanced coverage restrictions for the UE.

  • Patent number: 11076314
Abstract: A mobility management entity (MME) can enable overload control of data transmission via control plane in an evolved packet system (EPS), optimized for cellular internet of things (CIoT), by use of a control plane data backoff timer that suppresses the use of control plane for data transfer by a user equipment (UE) for the duration of the timer. For example, an MME sends a control plane data backoff timer to a UE that suppresses the use of control plane for data transfer for the duration of the timer. Alternatively, when an MME load reaches a threshold, an MME triggers an Overload Start message and sends it to the RAN node, so that the RAN node can restrict selecting this MME for UEs requiring data transfer using control plane CIoT optimization. The RAN node can reject these UEs and return a wait timer in an RRC Connection Release message.

  • Publication number: 20210204148
Abstract: Systems for providing SON functions running on an O-RAN RIC are described. To provide resource allocation for a non-real time RIC, the SON function monitors at least one RAN through collection of data from a network function. The data is analyzed to determine whether a network issue is present and, if so, is to be resolved. The SON function determines a SON action to be executed to resolve the network issue, and subsequently executes the SON action. Performance measurements of the network function are collected after execution of the SON action. The performance measurements are analyzed to evaluate whether the SON action has resolved the network issues and, if the network issues are not resolved, further SON actions are determined and subsequently executed.

  • Patent number: 11051363
Abstract: User equipment (UE) includes processing circuitry. To configure the UE for enhanced coverage (EC) in a 5G network, the processing circuitry is to encode N1 configuration request signaling for transmission to an Access and Mobility Function (AMF) of the 5G network. The N1 configuration request signaling includes an EC support capability indication of whether the UE supports restriction for EC. An N1 configuration response signaling is decoded from the AMF, the N1 configuration response signaling including EC restriction information. The EC restriction information is determined based on the EC support capability indication and subscription information of the UE. An enhanced coverage restriction determination is performed using the EC restriction information. A cell is selected from a plurality of available cells within the 5G network based on the enhanced coverage restriction determination.
