  • Publication number: 20170317777
Abstract: An apparatus includes a memory and a processor operatively coupled to the memory. The processor is configured to partition a set of ports of an optical multiplexer into a set of port groups including a first port group having a first set of ports and a second port group having a second set of ports mutually exclusive from the first set of ports. The processor is configured to associate the first port group with a first router and associate the second port group with a second router. When the optical multiplexer is operatively coupled to the first router and the second router, the first router is operatively coupled to the optical multiplexer via the first set of ports and not the second set of ports, and the second router is operatively coupled to the optical multiplexer via the second set of ports and not the first set of ports.

  • Publication number: 20170311115
Abstract: A cellular IoT (CIoT) device can comprise a coverage and/or processing constrained device e.g., devices operating primarily MTC or M2M (e.g., sensor devices, controller devices, etc.). These devices can have limited or no user interface, and can be used for machines or devices with little mobility. CIoT devices can be deployed in usage scenarios such as home automation (e.g., security, appliances, energy packages, etc.), industry automation, and smart cities with low-power devices (e.g., devices having a battery life of several years), and can be easily installed and operated in challenging coverage conditions, such as lower or basement levels of buildings. CIoT devices can be provisioned to connect to a cellular carrier network and an associated CSP. The CSP can execute end2end solutions (e.g., service portal, service sign-up, etc.) while the cellular carrier can provide the bulk data pipe to the CSP.

  • Patent number: 9794876
Abstract: Embodiments of wireless communication devices and method for discontinuous reception (DRX) mode in RRC_IDLE state of wireless communication are generally described herein. Some of these embodiments describe a wireless communication device having processing circuitry arranged to determine to use an extended paging discontinuous reception (DRX) value to increase a paging cycle length. The wireless communication device may transmit a non-access stratum (NAS) message to the network, indicating that the wireless communication device desires to use the extended paging DRX value. The wireless communication device may receive a message from the network that includes an information element (IE) indicating whether the network supports the extended paging DRX value. Other methods and apparatuses are also described.

  • Publication number: 20170289587
Abstract: Systems, devices, and configurations to implement trusted connections within wireless networks and associated devices and systems are generally disclosed herein. In some examples, a wireless local area network (WLAN) may be attached to a 3GPP evolved packet core (EPC) as a trusted access network, without use of an evolved packet data gateway (ePDG) and overhead from related tunneling and encryption. Information to create the trusted attachment between a mobile device and a WLAN may be exchanged using Access Network Query Protocol (ANQP) extensions defined by IEEE standard 802.11u-2011, or using other protocols or standards such as DHCP or EAP. A trusted WLAN container with defined data structure fields may be transferred in the ANQP elements to exchange information used in the establishment and operation of the trusted attachment.

  • Patent number: 9742719
Abstract: Filtering a set of social messages received in real time to yield a sub-set likely to relate to some first substantive content subject (such as a video available online). For each message in the sub-set, a respective social message sender, and a corresponding social influence value for each respective social message sender is determined. A prediction of the extent of the spread of the substantive content subject is made based on the social influence values of the social message senders.

  • Patent number: 9736074
Abstract: Embodiments of the present disclosure describe devices, methods, computer-readable media and systems configurations for handling user plane congestion in a wireless communications network. A packet data network gateway (PGW) and/or a serving gateway (SGW) may proactively transmit a congestion notification to a mobility management entity (MME) including a level of congestion of the PGW and/or SGW. The MME may receive congestion notifications from a plurality of PGWs and/or SGWs. The MME may receive a request for a packet data network (PDN) connection from a user equipment (UE), and may take an action in response to the request based on the reported levels of congestion. The action may include selecting a PGW and/or SGW for the PDN connection, notifying the UE that the PDN connection cannot be established, and/or negotiating with the UE to terminate or modify one or more existing PDN connections in exchange for establishing the new PDN connection.

  • Patent number: 9609602
Abstract: When a UE in an LTE system enters the RRC_IDLE state, only the S5/S8 EPS bearer context is retained, and the S1-U, S1-AP and radio bearers are released. These bearers have to be re-established on per UE basis when the UE returns to RRC_CONNECTED state. A number of UE applications may send small data frequently, which causes the UE to toggle between IDLE and CONNECTED states. This leads to a great deal of signaling overhead as the radio bearer and the S1-U bearer must be frequently re-established as the UE transitions between IDLE to CONNECTED states. Described herein are methods and systems that provide an always-on S1-U bearer to reduce this signaling overhead.
