Abstract: A system, apparatus, and method are provided for providing uninterrupted media streaming by accessing multiple network sites. According to one embodiment of the present invention, in response to a request from a client for media content, a list of preferred edges sites is generated. The list is then forwarded to the client. A first site from the list is accessed and requested for providing the media content to the client. In the event of a disturbance, a second site from the list is accessed and requested for providing continuous and uninterrupted streaming of the requested media content.

Abstract: A method of persistently displaying data including displaying first and second data in a display region of an information browser where a persistency control has been installed in the information browser. The persistency control prevents attempts to replace data that has been flagged as persistent. The attempts to replace data are requests associated with a navigation operation definable in data loadable in the information browser.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for taking digital pictures. A film camera having a standard back panel, a shutter, and a primary lens is provided. An image sensing array is disposed within the camera in an area normally occupied by film so as to be in optical communication with the primary lens when the shutter is open. A read-out circuit is packaged to reside in a cavity normally occupied by film when the camera is employed to take standard pictures. The read-out circuit is coupled to the image sensing array and reads out an image captured by the image sensing array. A memory is coupled to a read-out circuit to store images read from the image sensing array. The memory is packaged to also reside in a cavity vacated in the absence of film. In one embodiment, the read-out circuit and the memory occupy the same cavity. In another embodiment, the read-out circuit and the memory occupy different cavities.

Abstract: A document-collaboration videoconferencing system between a first and a second conference attendee. In one embodiment, the system comprises a document server, a local presenter computing system, and a conferencing computing system. In this embodiment, the local presenter computing system transfers a document to the document server over a network, and the first conferencing system copies such document over the network from the document server.

Abstract: Activation and deactivation of a screen saver in a video conferencing system is based on detected presence of a person in the room wherein the video conferencing system is sited and the current status of a videoconferencing session. The video conferencing system processes a screen save message received from an operating system and informs the operating system not to launch the screen saver if the video conferencing system detects that there is an active video conferencing session or if a presence detection technique has detected a presence in the room or area wherein the video conferencing system is sited within a predetermined time period. When a videoconferencing call is connected or a presence is detected and the screen saver is active, the screen saver is terminated. The presence may be detected by motion, sound, or other techniques.

Abstract: Method and apparatus for video conferencing provides for automatically managing user views to provide ready, video only, full screen video, video with document not shared, and video with shared document views. Several different automatically managed user-interfaces for a dual monitor system provide, among other things, that the second monitor can be used for local video image only, used for all functions except shared applications, or to display shared applications.

Abstract: In a method and apparatus for persisting browsing information, first request is received from a user and a first host system identified by the first request is accessed, from which data corresponding to the first request is received. A second request is also received from the user and a second host system identified by the second request is accessed, from which data corresponding to the second request is received. The data corresponding to both the first request and the second request are displayed concurrently in a single web browser.

Abstract: The conference manager of a general purpose personal conference application is enhanced, including a request management and a send/receive function for exchanging "business cards" electronically using a two-phase approach, a request phase and an answer phase. While request for another participant is automatic responsive to a connect/joint event, answering a request is conditionally depending on whether the receiving system is "in conference". The external manifestation of an electronic "business card" (bizcard) is a visual presentation of information commonly found on physical business cards in a format that resembles a physical business card. Preferably, the visual presentation also includes a picture of the person named. Internally, the information including the data necessary to render the picture are maintained in data structures.

Abstract: The conference manager of a conferencing application is enhanced to provide conditional termination service. In response to the receipt of a conference termination request, the conference manager provides cooperative applications as well as other connection dependent conferencing systems joined to the conference in progress opportunities to object to the conference termination request. If objections were received, the conference manager further provides a user of the conferencing system an opportunity to provide his/her inputs on whether the objections are to be overridden or sustained.

Abstract: Each PC conferencing application of a plurality PC conferencing systems is equipped with an enhanced profile function including the ability to allow a user to designate a personal address book, and a corporate address book. Each PC conferencing application is further equipped with functions for modeling exchange of business cards, including functions for creating, editing, sending, receiving, saving, and browsing electronic business cards. As an integral part of the bizcard create and edit process, each create and edit function causes an address record including a user's PC conference connection addresses to be populated in the designated corporate address book when a bizcard is created, and the address record to be updated whenever the bizcard is updated. The various designated corporate address files are automatically synchronized.
