  • Patent number: 6456652
Abstract: Disclosed is a method for optimizing forward link coverage in a spread spectrum communication system, e.g., CDMA system. Spread spectrum test communication signals are transmitted from a base station at a known power level, using an antenna having a known beam direction. Orthogonal channel noise is simulated in order to model noise generated by wireless communication traffic existing in an operational communication system of many subscribers. A mobile station receives the test communication signals in a specific region of a cell, and measures signal quality parameters, e.g., RSSI, Ec/Io and a forward frame error rate (FFER), from the received signals and simulated noise. The measured signal quality parameters are compared to respective criteria. Each region is designating as being satisfactorily covered by the base station if the measured signal quality parameters substantially satisfy the criteria.

  • Patent number: 6445925
Abstract: A method is disclosed for establishing a location registration zone in a code division multiple access (CDMA) system. This method comprises the steps of calculating a paging load and a registration load for a mobile station in a specific test area, calculating the summation of the paging load and registration load, determining the number of base stations in order to minimize the summation of the paging load and registration load and setting a location registration zone in the test area.

  • Patent number: 6418322
Abstract: A method of forward power control in a cellular mobile telecommunication system having a base station and a mobile station, a base station receives an information about the quality of a forward link from a mobile station and controls the transmission power in the forward link. If information about the quality of the forward link is not obtained within a predetermined period due to deterioration in the forward link, the base station changes its parameters of the forward power control. As a result, the digital gain of transmission power of the forward link is increased to improve the deteriorated quality of the forward link and to carry out the forward power control. Simultaneously, the base station decreases the digital gain of transmission power more rapidly to saving a power consumption and to reduce interference to other radio channels.

  • Patent number: 6408186
Abstract: A method of measuring the distance between a mobile phone and a base station based on the round-trip delay (RTD) of a prescribed message transmitted from the base station to the mobile phone in a cellular mobile telephone system (CMTS), comprising the steps of calculating a mean error distance to adjust the distance between the base station and the mobile phone within the cell boundary of the base station, measuring the RTD between the base station and the mobile phone positioned at an arbitrary point within the cell, calculating the RTD distance between the base station and the mobile phone based on the RTD measurement by subtracting the mean error distance from the RTD distance.

  • Patent number: 6272122
Abstract: There is provided a method for assigning a pilot PN(PseudoNoise) offset to a base station in a digital mobile telecommunications system. In the pilot PN offset assigning method, a single cluster is divided into a plurality of subclusters, and a plurality of general base stations and reserved base stations, each having a plurality of sectors, are arranged in each of the subclusters.

  • Patent number: 6188906
Abstract: A method for coverage optimization of a multi-frequency assignment communication system employing a dummy pilot channel, particularly a CDMA communication system. A first base station is configured to transmit communication signals to subscriber terminals using at least a first frequency allocation (FA#1) and a second frequency allocation (FA#2). A second base station transmits communication signals to subscriber terminals using FA#1 substantially more frequently than FA#2. The second base station has a dummy pilot at FA#2 which is used for handoff at FA#2. The method equalizes coverage in the first base station at FA#1 and FA#2 by transmitting the dummy pilot with less RF power than that for a pilot channel at FA#1 of the second base station, and sufficient to substantially equalize a handoff boundary between first and second cells at both FA#1 and FA#2 in an environment of more communication traffic and associated interference at FA#1 than at FA#2.

  • Patent number: 6151508
Abstract: The present invention discloses a method for improving a call quality by increasing the output of a mobile station over the reverse link by adjusting threshold range of a system's predetermined E.sub.b /N.sub.o value in the event that the transmission output of the mobile station is stopped in a reverse power control of a cellular system, and by comparing the measured E.sub.b /N.sub.o ratio to a predetermined threshold E.sub.b /N.sub.o ratio to increase/decrease the mobile station transmit power. The method includes steps of adjusting the predetermined threshold E.sub.b /N.sub.o ratio by monitoring the call quality in a forward frame, and repeatedly increasing/decreasing the mobile station transmit power accordingly.
