  • Patent number: 11209524
Abstract: A detection system and method for characterizing targets in an environment around vehicle. Signals are transmitted into the environment and return signals that have reflected off targets are received. The targets are initial characterized based on their return signals and the ego-motion of vehicle as determined from sensors on the vehicle. Corrections are determined based on the position of targets with respect to the azimuth range of the detection system and the side of the target with respect to a boresight. The initial characterizations are then adjusted to obtain a final target characterization.

  • Publication number: 20190011548
Abstract: System and methods are provided which involve a radar system that includes one or more signal generators configured for generating a composite radar waveform formed by combining different component waveforms; and a detector for detecting reflected signals from the composite waveform and determining velocity and distance measurements of a target relative to a host vehicle. Advantageously, the first and second component waveforms are selected such that the composite waveform is able to meet two different sets of resolution requirements with respect to at least one of: (i) the velocity measurement of the target vehicle relative to the host vehicle and (ii) the distance measurement of a target vehicle relative to the host vehicle. Notably, each of the different sets of resolution requirements is pre-selected based on a different type of detection scenario.

  • Publication number: 20190011547
Abstract: In general the systems and methods described herein relate to velocity ambiguity resolution in an automotive radar system. More particularly, systems and methods produce a unique composite waveform that alternates between, interleaves or otherwise combines a plurality of component waveforms, each characterized by a different velocity ambiguity. Velocity ambiguity is then resolved by determining corresponding Doppler bins which correctly reflect ambiguous velocity calculations for both component waveforms. The systems and methods of the present disclosure are applied to a unique composite linear frequency modulated continuous waveform where component waveforms are generated by modulating one or more parameters of the waveform to change the velocity ambiguity range. Moreover, the systems and methods may selectively apply ambiguity resolution based on the velocity of a host vehicle.
