  • Publication number: 20070253592
Abstract: A method of protecting a digital image, the method comprising extracting feature values from the digital image based on a selected authentication bit-rate; embedding data corresponding to the feature values as a watermark in a into the digital image; and creating an image signature based on the data corresponding to the feature values.

  • Patent number: 6988201
Abstract: A method, an apparatus, and a computer program product for digital audio watermarking of wavetable (WT) format audio, including downloadable sounds (DLS) (110), are disclosed. Correspondingly, a method, an apparatus, and a computer program product for extracting watermarks (126, 552) from a digital audio watermarked WT audio (162, 510) are disclosed. In particular, a digital audio watermark (126) is embedded (140, 130) in both articulation parameters (122) and sample data (124) of a DLS (110). A finite automaton module (220) is used to implement adaptive coding (130) of the sample data (124). Virtual parameters (430) are generated for information hiding (140) applied to the articulation parameters (122). Optionally, playback of the WT (152) can be limited by an embedded control signal. Brief overviews of MIDI and DLS are provided.

  • Publication number: 20050129268
Abstract: A system for watermarking an image file selects coefficients using a selection procedure that is kept secret, and assigns the selected coefficients to coefficient pairs. The difference between the coefficients of the pairs is biased by a value that varies, preferably in a pseudo-random manner, and the biased differences are used to generate signature bits that characterize the authentic image at different locations. To detect an unauthorized alteration after the image file has been watermarked, coefficient pairs are selected using the same secret procedure that was originally used to generate the signature bits. The difference between the coefficients of the pairs is then biased and checked against the signature bits. Using a varying bias value permits a tolerance band for reducing false alarms to be used without the risk that would otherwise exist that evidence of an attack on the original image might be hidden in the tolerance band.

  • Publication number: 20040128511
Abstract: Techniques for signing multimedia content and verifying received multimedia content that are both robust and accurate are provided. Invariant features are extracted from multimedia content, and certain attributes are computed. Multimedia content is quantized, and extracted invariant features and quantized original multimedia content are encrypted to form a digital signature. The multimedia content and digital signature may be verified even after the introduction of distortions by using content registration. In a preferred embodiment, a refined authentication technique is used to obtain a continuous distance measure, to verify the authenticity of multimedia content based on a pre-defined threshold.

  • Patent number: 6748533
Abstract: A method, an apparatus and a computer program product are disclosed for protecting the legitimacy of an article (100), and in particular an electronic document, against forgery or fraud. Such articles include passports, credit cards, bank notes, lottery tickets, secure forms. The method includes the following steps: several watermarks (204, 224, 244) are generated independently (304, 306, 308) by different cryptographic watermarking mechanisms controlled utilising information permanently associated within the article or product (100); and each watermark is embedded in a linked cryptographic manner (160, 162, 164). Subsequently, the watermarks can be scanned and digitised (410). The authenticity of the article (100) can be determined by verifying the correctness of extracted watermarks and the encryption links (160, 162, 164) among them. Also disclosed is a method of embedding an invisible watermark (714) in an official seal (712) incorporated in an electronic article or document (700).

  • Patent number: 6678389
Abstract: A steganographic method is disclosed to embed an invisible watermark into an image. It can be used for copyright protection, content authentication or content annotation. The technique is mainly based on K-L transform. Firstly a block and cluster step 106 and cluster selection step 108 are performed to enhance the optimization of K-L transform 110 for a given image. Then a watermark is embedded 114 into the selected eigen-clusters. ECC (Error Correction Code) can be employed to reduce the embedded code error rate. The proposed method is characterized by robustness despite the degradation or modification on the watermarked content. Furthermore, the method can be extended to video, audio or other multimedia especially for multimedia databases in which the stored multimedia are categorized by their contents or classes.

  • Patent number: 6674861
Abstract: A method, an apparatus and a computer program product for adaptive, content-based watermark embedding of a digital audio signal (100) are disclosed. Corresponding watermark extracting techniques are also disclosed. Watermark information (102) is encrypted (120) using an audio digest signal, i.e. a watermark key (108). To optimally balance inaudibility and robustness when embedding and extracting watermarks (450), the original audio signal (100) is divided into fixed-length frames (1100, 1120, 1130) in the time domain. Echoes (S′[n], S″[n]) are embedded in the original audio signal (100) to represent the watermark (450). The watermark (450) is generated by delaying and scaling the original audio signal (100) and embedding it in the audio signal (100). An embedding scheme (104) is designed for each frame (1100, 1120, 1130) according to its properties in the frequency domain.
