    Abstract: Precursors for forming a plurality of multielement materials of different compositions can be deposited on different portions of a common substrate according to a combinatorial approach. The substrate can be subjected to a thermal shock, thereby converting the deposited precursors into separate multielement materials on the substrate. The thermal shock can be a temperature greater than or equal to 500° C. and a duration less than 60 seconds. In some embodiments, each multielement material can be tested with respect to an electrical property, a chemical property, or an optical property. Based on the results of the testing, a composition of a multielement material can be determined for use in a predetermined application, such as use as a catalyst, a plasmonic nanoparticle, an energy storage device, an optoelectronic device, a solid-state electrolyte, or an ion conductive membrane.

    Abstract: One or more reactants are flowed into thermal contact with a heating element in a reactor for a first time period. During a first part of a heating cycle, the one or more reactants are provided with a first temperature by heating with the heating element, such that one or more thermochemical reactions is initiated. The one or more thermochemical reactions includes pyrolysis, thermolysis, synthesis, hydrogenation, dehydrogenation, hydrogenolysis, or any combination thereof. The first heating element operates by Joule heating and has a porous construction that allows gas to flow therethrough. During a second part of the heating cycle, the one or more reactants are provided with a second temperature less than the first temperature, for example, by de-energizing the heating element. A duration of the first time period is equal to or greater than a duration of the heating cycle, which is less than five seconds.

    Abstract: A system for in situ repair of a metal pipe has a pipe repair head, an actuation assembly, an electrical power supply, and a controller. The pipe repair head can have an arm extending along a radiation direction of the pipe and a Joule heating element coupled to a distal end portion of the arm. The actuation assembly can move the pipe repair head along the axial and/or circumferential directions of the metal pipe. The controller controls the actuation assembly to position the pipe repair head with respect to a surface portion of the inner circumferential wall. The controller can then control the electrical power supply to apply a current pulse to the Joule heating element so as to generate a temperature of at least 1000° C. proximal to the surface portion, thereby sintering a metal powder in a slurry on the surface portion to form a metal repair layer.

    Abstract: The present teaching relates to method, system, medium, and implementations for LED display. A first signal is received that signals a timing for a next data transfer. In response to the first signal, a bit-based image block stored in a memory is transferred, via a bus connected thereto, to one of a pair of alternate buffers pointed to by a write buffer pointer, which is subsequently toggled to point to another of the pair of alternate buffers. A second signal is received that signals a timing for refreshing the LED display. In response to the second signal, the bit-based image block is retrieved from the one of the pair of alternate buffers pointed to by a read buffer pointer, which is then toggled to point to the other of the pair of alternate buffers. The lights of the LED display are then refreshed in accordance with control signals generated based on the bit-based image block.

    Abstract: A system for providing memory chip test pad access management to facilitate data security is disclosed. A host issues a command to access a non-volatile memory of a memory chip system via a test pad. A controller acknowledges the command by transmitting a response to the host to authenticate the host for access. The host then issues an authenticated command to modify a reserved byte of a protected memory partition of the non-volatile memory. The controller responds to the authenticated command and the reserved byte is modified. Firmware of the memory chip system monitors the modification of the reserved byte and notifies the memory chip system to activate a switch in an access control unit controlling access to the non-volatile memory. The switch is then activated, thereby closing a circuit to connect the test pad with the non-volatile memory. The host then access the non-volatile memory via the test pad.
