  • Publication number: 20070068236
Abstract: A partial flow sampling system includes a system inlet for receiving an exhaust sample flow from a sample inlet probe and transfer line. The system further includes a dilution air control system for controlling a dilution air flow rate, and a mixer. The mixer receives and mixes the exhaust sample flow and the dilution air flow to produce a mixture flow. A total flow control system controls the mixture flow rate. An orifice flow meter installed at the system inlet measures the exhaust sample flow rate in. real-time. This provides accurate sample flow measurements over a wide range of dilution ratios and sample ratios.

  • Publication number: 20070028662
Abstract: A particle generating system includes an aerosol generator, an ejector diluter, and an aerosol diluter. The ejector diluter receives the generated aerosol and dilutes the aerosol to an expected raw concentration. The aerosol diluter further dilutes the aerosol to a concentration in the range of 0% to 100% of the expected raw concentration. The aerosol diluter includes a mini cyclone for diluting the aerosol. The particle generating system may be configured to provide variable concentrations of monodisperse or polydisperse aerosols for instrument calibration. The system may provide constant concentrations in the range of 0% to 100% of the raw concentration. The mini cyclone makes the system compact, and the system may be portable.

  • Publication number: 20060208399
Abstract: A particle generator is able to generate pure particles for solid or liquid materials with melting points over several hundred degrees Celsius. The material is heated to generate the vapor in a small chamber. Heated nitrogen or some inert gas is used as the carry gas to bring the mixture into a dilution system. As the super saturation ratio of the material is large enough and over a critical value, particles are formed in the dilution system by homogenous nucleation, and grown in the same dilution system as well. The different size distributions and concentrations of the particles can be obtained by varying dilution parameters, such as residence time and dilution ratio.

  • Publication number: 20060179960
Abstract: A wide range continuous diluter for diluting gases that contain small particles to allow subsequent measurement of the diluted gases with an instrument is provided. A dilution gas inlet receives a dilution gas, and a sample gas inlet receives a sample gas. A flow meter measures the sample gas flow rate. A mixer receives and mixes the dilution gas and the sample gas at a dilution ratio. An instrument flow outlet provides a well-defined flow into the instrument from the mixture flow. A make-up gas inlet is arranged to provide make-up gas into the mixture flow at a controlled rate. Because the dilution gas flows at a controlled rate and the mixture flows at a controlled rate, changing the flow rate of the make-up gas causes a responsive change in the sample gas flow rate, thereby allowing continuous adjustment and control of the dilution ratio when desired.

  • Publication number: 20050071892
Abstract: This invention relates to a primate animal model for SARS, namely, the techniques and applications of establishment of SARS by using Rhesus monkeys (Macaca Mulata) and Cynomogus Macaques (Macaca fascicularis). The Rhesus monkeys and Cynomogus Macaques free-living in China are infected at least through one route for inoculation: inoculated via nasal cavity, and the dose is 0.5-1 ml 107 TCID50; inoculated via the bronchi, the dose being 0.5-1 ml 106 TCID50; or inoculated intravenously, the dose being 0.5-1 ml 105 TCID50.

  • Patent number: 6813584
Abstract: A system and method for determining attitude using triaxial micro electro-mechanical accelerometer-magnetometer sensors. The triaxial accelerometer-magnetometer sensors measure the triaxial components of the local gravity and magnetic field along three sensing axes of the sensors. The misalignment of the components due to nonorthogonal triaxial assembling of the sensors is estimated via performing three optical alignments and is further compensated in the sensing outputs. A micro-cube with three orthogonal coated mirrors is fixed on the circuit board of the system for implementing the optical alignments. The compensated sensing components are processed to figure out the attitude using Orientation Cosine Conversion of the local gravity and magnetic field. The computation for determining the attitude is based on the inverse tangent of the ratio of the processed components, which is more precise than the computation using the absolute values of the components.

  • Patent number: 6383406
Abstract: Insertion of light elements such as H,C, or N in the R2Fe17 (R=rare earth metal) series has been found to modify the magnetic properties of these compounds, which thus become prospective candidates for high performance permanent magnets. The most spectacular changes are increases of the Curie temperature, Tc, of the magnetization, Ms, and of coercivity, Hc, upon interstitial insertion. A preliminary product having a component R—Fe—C,N phase is produced by a chemical route. Rare earth metal and iron amides are synthesized followed by pyrolysis and sintering in an inert or reduced atmosphere, as a result of which, the R—Fe—C,N phases are formed. Fabrication of sintered rare earth iron nitride and carbonitride bulk magnet is impossible via conventional process due to the limitation of nitridation method.
