  • Publication number: 20110055192
Abstract: Roughly described, a database searching method for searching a database, in which hits are ranked in dependence upon an information measure of itoms shared by both the hit and the query. The information measure can be a Shannon information score, or another measure which indicates the information value of the shared itoms. An itom can be a word or other token, or a multi-word phrase, and can overlap with each other. Synonyms can be substituted for itoms in the query, with the information measure of substituted itoms being derated in accordance with a predetermined measure of the synonyms' similarity. Indirect searching methods are described in which hit from other search engines are re-ranked in dependence upon the information measures of shared itoms. Structured and completely unstructured databases may be searched, with hits being demarcated dynamically. Hits may be clustered based upon distances in an information-measure-weighted distance space.

  • Publication number: 20090024612
Abstract: The invention is a method for textual searching of text-based databases including databases of compiled internet content, scientific literature, abstracts for books and articles, newspapers, journals, and the like. Specifically, the algorithm supports searches using full-text or webpage as query and keyword searches allowing multiple entries and an information-content based ranking system (Shannon Information score) that uses p-values to represent the likelihood that a hit is due to random matches. Additionally, users can specify the parameters that determine hits and their ranking with scoring based on phrase matches and sentence similarities.

  • Publication number: 20040175744
Abstract: The present invention relates to the identification of the over expression of certain genes encoding certain secreted and membrane-bound proteins in breast, lung, colon and kidney cancers. Knowledge that these genes are over expressed in the cancers is useful for the detection, diagnosis, prevention and treatment of the specific cancers.

  • Publication number: 20040067492
Abstract: The present invention provides novel methods for detection of gene. A method for detecting RNA molecules of interest in which oligonucleotide primers uniquely complementary to specific RNA molecules are used as primers for reverse transcribing target RNAs with reverse transcriptase, or any enzyme that possesses reverse transcription activity, is provided. The invention eliminates the need for labeling or converting the target RNA by incorporating detectable labels in the elongation product of reverse transcription of the probe-bound target RNA in the sample.

  • Publication number: 20020155473
Abstract: The present invention describes a method for isolating novel G-protein coupled receptors (GPCRs) whose expression is associated with disease states. The invention provides polynucleotide and polypeptide sequences whose expression is associated with neurodegenerative diseases and cancer. The invention also provides evidence of novel G-protein coupled receptors (GPCRs) related polynucleotide sequences whose expression level is associated with Parkinson's disease, Alzheimer's disease and leukemia. The present invention provides methods for identifying GPCR polypeptides associated with diseases and provides diagnostic compositions and methods for the detection of diseases.

  • Publication number: 20020076761
Abstract: Secreted proteins can be identified using a method which exploits the ability of microsomes to modify proteins post-translationally. Nineteen human secreted proteins and full-length cDNA sequences encoding the proteins have been identified using this method. The proteins and cDNA sequences can be used, inter alia, for targeting other proteins to the membrane or extracellular milieu.

  • Publication number: 20020048823
Abstract: The invention provides compositions, methods and systems that comprise or use an array of a library of monoclonal antibodies for identifying a monoclonal antibody specific for a target antigen; or for profiling a plurality of unknown antigens from a particular source such as cells, cell lysates, tissues, or animals by the antigens' monoclonal antibody binding characteristics. The invention is useful to find a monoclonal antibody for an antigen, or to characterize antigen from a particular source (e.g. a source comprising an animal having a disease) in order to develop tools for understanding a condition (e.g. the disease) in that source.

  • Patent number: 6203984
Abstract: The invention concerns polynucleotide compositions and methods for copying and amplifying mRNA, and provides for a method of making a linear cDNA or cRNA library based on original mRNA templates. The linear polynucleotides have the advantage of being more completely representative of full length mRNA transcripts than previously possible, and the linear libraries constructed by these methods represent relative abundances of the original transcripts in the original population of mRNA more accurately than previously possible.
