  • Publication number: 20240032041
Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. A user equipment (UE) may adjust resources (e.g., time resources, frequency resources) used to transmit repetitions of uplink control information (UCI) over a physical uplink control channel (PUCCH). The UE may adjust two parameters corresponding to different scales (e.g., levels) of adjustment, where a first parameter corresponds to a number of repetitions of a PUCCH resource and a second parameter corresponds to a number of slots within each PUCCH repetition. The UE may adjust the resources based on the first parameter, the second parameter, a size of UCI, a maximum coding rate, or some combination thereof, such that the PUCCH resources carrying UCI satisfy the maximum code rate and UCI size.

  • Publication number: 20240023091
Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. In some systems, a base station and multiple user equipment (UEs) may participate in a federated learning operation in which each UE may transmit an unencoded uplink signal to the base station indicating one or more parameters associated with updating a local model at the UE. The base station may aggregate and average the received parameters to update a global model at the base station. Additionally, each UE that transmits an unencoded uplink signal may transmit reporting information associated with the unencoded uplink signal indicating that the unencoded uplink signal is transmitted or that a downlink control information was received. The base station may use the reporting information to determine an averaging value with which to average the aggregation of the received parameters.

  • Publication number: 20240008035
Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. A user equipment (UE) may convey uplink control information (UCI) to a base station using a multi-slot or single slot uplink channels. In some cases, however, transmissions scheduled on a first set of resources allocated for multi-slot transmission of a first uplink channel may overlap with one or more slots of a second set of resources allocated for multi-slot transmission of a second uplink control channel. Accordingly, the UE may employ a number of different techniques to transmit the UCI. In a first case, the UE may map the UCI to at least one of the overlapping slots of the first uplink channel. In a second case, the UE may drop the second uplink channel which carries the UCI. In a third case, and the UE may map the UCI to an overlapping slot of the second uplink channel.

  • Publication number: 20230413070
Abstract: A method performed by a user equipment (UE) generates local gradients for a federated learning task. The method calculates a gradient Sum-Power level based on the local gradients. The method receives a mapping between gradient Sum-Power levels and scaling factors for channel inversion coefficients to process a data block into an unencoded uplink signal. The method also determines a channel inversion coefficient based on a scaling factor obtained from the mapping and the calculated gradient Sum-Power level. The method applies analog modulation and the channel inversion coefficient to the data block to form the unencoded uplink signal. The method further transmits, to a network, the unencoded uplink signal on shared uplink resources for an over-the-air computation of global gradients for the federated learning task.

  • Publication number: 20230397172
Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described that support signaling of compressed gradient vectors in a machine learning system that utilizes federated learning. The compressed gradient vectors may be used to report stochastic gradients from multiple edge devices (e.g., multiple user equipment (UE) devices) that are combined into a global model at an edge server (e.g., a base station). A base station may configure a UE with one or more parameters for quantizing a local stochastic gradient, and for reporting the quantized local stochastic gradient in a set of compressed gradient vectors. Each vector of the compressed gradient vectors may be associated with a different stage of a multi-stage compression procedure for reporting the local stochastic gradient, and multiple reports from multiple UEs may be aggregated in a federated learning procedure associated with a machine learning algorithm.
