    Abstract: This application provides a communication method and a related apparatus. The method is applied to a terminal device. The method includes: sending paging capability information to an access network device, where the paging capability information indicates one or more paging capabilities supported by a terminal device; and receiving first information from the access network device, where the first information indicates that the access network device successfully maintains one or more paging capabilities. Based on the solutions in embodiments of this application, the terminal device and a network device can have a consistent understanding of a paging capability of the terminal device, to improve paging reliability.

    Abstract: Example communication methods and communication apparatus are described. In one example method, when a terminal device receives a first message and when access stratum (AS) security between the terminal device and a network device is not activated, the terminal device determines not to update the first information. The first information indicates a last used cell of the terminal device, and the first message indicates to release a radio resource control (RRC) connection between the terminal device and the network device. The terminal device releases the RRC connection.

    Abstract: A communication method includes receiving a first capability query request from a first access device; sending a first capability reporting message to the first access device; receiving a second capability query request from a second access device; and sending a second capability reporting message to the second access device. Neither a first terminal capability nor a second terminal capability is greater than a capability specification of the terminal, the capability specification of the terminal is shared by a first user and a second user, and a sum of the first terminal capability and the second terminal capability is greater than the capability specification of the terminal. Hence, when a single user has a service to be executed, an access device may allocate a corresponding resource to the service of the user based on a reported higher terminal capability.

Scheduling request configuration information can then be determined in response to the RRC resume message, where the scheduling request configuration information is used to obtain an uplink shared channel resource. A radio link control status report can then be sent by using the uplink shared channel resource, where the radio link control status report is used to provide a positive acknowledgement of a radio link control service data unit.
