  • Publication number: 20160237495
Abstract: The invention provides methods for diagnosing chronic valvular disease in an animal. The methods comprise obtaining a sample from the animal; analyzing the sample for an amount of a microRNA (miRNA) associated with chronic valvular disease; comparing the amount of the miRNA identified in the sample to a corresponding amount of the miRNA present in a sample from one or more comparable control animals that do not suffer from chronic valvular disease; and diagnosing the animal with chronic valvular disease if the amount of the miRNA found in the animal's sample is differentially expressed in the control animal's sample.

  • Patent number: 9322832
Abstract: The invention provides methods for diagnosing degenerative joint disease in an animal by collecting a saliva sample from an animal; determining the amount of at least one diagnostic agent selected from the group consisting of interferon gamma, interferoninducible protein-10, interleukin-2, and total saliva protein in the saliva sample; comparing the amount of diagnostic agent found in the saliva sample to a corresponding amount of the same diagnostic agent found in a saliva sample from one or more comparable control animals that do not suffer from degenerative joint disease; and diagnosing that the animal is susceptible to or suffering from degenerative joint disease if the amount of diagnostic agent in the saliva sample from the animal is greater than the amount of same diagnostic agent found in the saliva sample from the one or more comparable control animals.

  • Publication number: 20150153353
Abstract: The invention provides methods for diagnosing chronic valvular disease in an animal. The methods comprise obtaining a sample from the animal; analyzing the sample for the presence of one or more metabolites associated with chronic valvular disease; comparing the amount of each such metabolite identified in the sample to a corresponding amount of the same metabolite present in a sample from one or more comparable control animals that do not suffer from chronic valvular disease; and using said comparison to diagnose chronic valvular disease in the animal if the metabolites found in the animal's sample is greater than or less than the amount present in the control animal's sample.

  • Publication number: 20120220488
Abstract: The invention provides a set of robust biomarkers of aging in the heart comprising several genes involved in the Wnt signaling pathway. These genes have been found to be down-regulated in aged versus young heart tissue. Methods of using those biomarkers to monitor heart aging and to identify nutrients and dietary regimens for retarding heart aging are disclosed. Methods for the modulation of the genes themselves to retard heart aging are also disclosed.
