  • Patent number: 8122326
Abstract: A system includes a header stripper configured to strip header data from a plurality of legacy system frames. Each of the plurality of legacy system frames (i) being in accordance with a legacy system frame format and (ii) including a header block and a traffic channel block. A first encoder is configured to encode speech data for a plurality of slots of the traffic channel blocks. A second encoder is configured to encode the stripped header data as a frame header. A combiner is configured to combine the frame header and the encoded speech data to generate a frame. A segmenter segments the frame into a plurality of segments. A transmitter is configured to transmit the plurality of segments as traffic channel data in accordance with the legacy system frame format.

  • Patent number: 7712005
Abstract: An encoding and error correction system and method employs an adaptive multi-rate (AMR) codec by stripping header data from a plurality of legacy system frames having header and traffic channel (TCH) data blocks. Speech data is then encoded using the AMR to create bits for a data block substantially the same as contained in the plurality of frames. The stripped header data is encoded as a long frame header using a fixed convolution coder. The speech data is then convolutionally encoded and the long frame header and encoded speech data are combined as a long frame. The long frame is then deconstructed into a plurality of equal segments and the segments are transmitted as TCH data in the legacy system frame format.

  • Patent number: 7463701
Abstract: A system and method of recovering symbol timing from a high symbol rate TDD or TDMA broadband transmission. A correlator operating at a fraction of the symbol rate receives in-phase and quadrature data signals from a broadband demodulator and processes those signals using a predefined match filter for a pilot signal to detect the pilot signal. The correlator measures any timing error in the symbol timing and adjusts a pointer in a memory buffer to replay the pilot signal to the correlator. Again, any timing error is determined and the pointer in the memory buffer is adjusted for a final replay of the pilot signal as well as the data to the correlator. At this point the timing error in the symbol timing is reduced to a minimum. With symbol timing established, coefficients in an equalizer are adjusted so that the remaining data transmission is properly received.

  • Patent number: 6236714
Abstract: A Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) modem determines the proper transnit power level in a splitterless environment by transmitting a probe signal at different power levels to a telephone set and measuring the distortion signal reflected from the telephone set for each power level. The proper transmit power level is determined by detecting the “comer point” of the reflected distortion signal.
